I have a HP Photosmart C6280 All-In-One printer. It does scanning and photos along with basic printing. It has a fairly small profile for all that it does. I really like it, and I would like to have one of these delivered to my son when school starts, but wanted to make sure it would fit. Does a cadet out there know what area my son will have to work with? The printer is 18" wide, 20 deep and 8" tall although it needs room to lift the cover, room for wires in back etc. Would love some specifications. I know I could wait until PW but I'd like him to have it beforehand if possible.

That should be fine. I don't know the exact size of my printer, but my Dell all-in-one fit easily on the bottom most shelf (the one that slides out) on the desk.
