Quick Question:

Next year I'm taking AP Calc AB, Hon Physics, AP Lit, Latin 4, and for my other two classes I have to choose between AP Chem and a Social Studies Elective like Moral Issues, or Economics College in School and Political Science College in School. Which one will admissions look more favorably upon? This is due to a scheduling issue.

Thanks,

Bear

I think that the AP Chem will be looked upon more favorably...they really love to see AP Calc, Chem, and/or Physics, and it`s great you`re already scheduled to take AP Calc, and I think you should take AP Chem if you feel you can be successful. Are you then planning on taking AP Physics senior year?

I don't think a social studies elective is the plebe killer each year...

Take AP Chem. Doesn't have to be this year (seeing as how you're prospective '19), but make sure you take it or some other college-level chem course. Same with Calculus (take BC) and Physics (C). The classes here move quickly. You'll be glad you had some prior experience in the course.

Unclear if the OP is going into junior or senior year. You need to take h.s. chem (preferably AP) before you enter USNA. That at least lets you breathe the first 6 weeks of Plebe chem. Whether you take it jr. or sr. year doesn't really matter.

Sorry for the confusion-

Going into Junior Year next year, I'm taking AP Physics and BC Calc Senior year and Hon Physics next year (currently a sophomore). AP Chem would be an elective.

Thanks,

Bear

If you check the USNA website, www.usna.edu/Admissions and select FAQ, you will find a coherent, concise statement of what USNA recommends a candidate should take in high school. It is pretty predictable, actually.
