I am unsure of what I want to do when I am done with college. If I go to USMMA and upon graduation decide that I would like to be in the army, is it possible to cross branch into the army? If so, how would I do it and what would my army rank be?

So, what would I have to do to have the army accept me as a 2LT? Is there somewhere that I can get specifics about this?

You apply for a commission in the Army. Whatever branch you choose, you’ll have to apply for the commission. There is an army officer stationed full time at the academy (we have air force and coast guard liaisons as well in addition to the naval science department and the gunnery sergeant) who will be able to help you through the process if you choose to come to KP. Realize that you can cross commission into ANY branch of the military (in addition to the non-military but uniformed-service NOAA). With that in mind, most of us will become ensigns in the Navy Reserve Strategic Sealift Officer program and will be sailing on our licenses. Most of your classes will be focused on how to functionally run a large merchant ship from either the bridge or the engine room. I can tell you that this is tough to swallow for a lot of my classmates who have no intention to sail.
Btw the current army liaison is MAJ Burgos. He can probably give you the most accurate on this stuff. I believe there’s something like eight guys going into the army in the class of 2014. Here’s his email: burgosl@usmma.edu
