CULP and CIET summer 2015 AROTC

Class was informed today that it was all contracted MS1's and part of the top of the MS1 class OML. We got to request dates.

My daughter is a contracted MS1 and just got her CIET class in June 2015. She tells me that its not paid because its training. Any truth to that? I read on some college websites that they get paid for CIET & CLC. If not, at the very least you'd think that she should get her stipend...right?

In fact, they don't get the stipend any summer. It's only given while school is in session.

Actually for MS3's going into the summer for AROTC, they do get their stipend, they just don't get it while they are at training.

Both my sons continued to receive their stipend up to the date they left for LDAC, both had follow on CTLT as well so there wasn't that much of the stipend paid but they did receive it while not at training over the summer.

Of course all of that could have changed for this summer coming up.

Well, that's generous of the Army. Navy doesn't do that (or DS didn't mention it). Of course Navy does get paid while on cruise every summer so mox nix.

Michael G, I posted that a while ago. The information given has since changed. Now we are being told it is MS2's only. Although I haven't heard of anyone being assigned slots in my battalion. I'm not sure anyone really knows exactly what is going on with CIET.

It's due to system requirements. Apparently they can't shut it off for MS3's and 4's during the summers but it will end immediately once you no longer are eligible for benefits (scholarship runs out, commission, etc.). Amazing how that works. All the money MS3's and MS4's get from their stipend while they attend training will be taken back, they can't get both at the same time.

Last summer the training pay was $33.89 per day. I'm out of the loop now so I don't know anything about what it will look like this summer. Or what anything in cadet command will look like this summer, for that matter (thank goodness).

"...(or DS didn't mention it)."
That is funny Kinnem and you were probably wondering summers past where your son was getting the money for those new shades and electronic gadets!
Or maybe Navy gave extra $ for Marine option because it used to be harder and more expensive for Marines to stay looking good all the time in those oh so nice dress whites.

Never wondered at all! He worked for it. I took care of room and board, everything else was on him - gas for his Jeep, date money, etc.
They do look good in those summer whites, don't they? I think that's the one thing we'll both miss when he commissions.... no more summer whites! One of my first NROTC memories was when DS told me the story of walking across campus in his summer whites. Some gals walked past him and after they passed he overheard one of them saying, "Boy, he's hot!"

uuugghhhh those summer whites are only good looking from a distance! On my mids summer cruise last yr, while wearing his summer whites, the CO asked him "when did the navy switch to khakis?!".... those things get so gross so fast!!!! (oh and the CO asked him "when did the navy issue long hair?! Go get another haircut !!";)

Anyone knows if Burkina Faso and Angola have just been dropped out of CULP 2015?

CIET NOW BACK ON-I'VE OFFICIALLY LOST MY EVER-LOVIN' MIND!
DS heard the same thing!!!
DS heard if you were going to CULP this year then you would go to CIET next year. BUT... if you are currently an MSII and going to CULP this year then you would not go to CIET as an MSIII since you would have to go to CLC as well. If you are a contracted MSI or MSII and not going to CULP this year I would plan on going to CIET this year. All other summer plans, jobs, army schools are likely going to have to take a back seat. DS is hoping he will get some say as to when he goes so he can take advantage of some excellent job oppurtunities he has landed.

I think the pea is under the shell in the middle.

Ironic. My MS1 son was told Monday there were still slots open so he volunteered to go (in addition to CULP). Cadre got back to him Wednesday and said all slots had since been filled.

Awwww, no problem DanGir, by Monday he will be going to CIET but CULP will be cancelled.

Welcome to the military. This is where I think military brats have a little leg up- my DS has been through all of his dad's deployments. He is not sweating dates in the least. Stuff happens when it happens. Nothing is ever certain. As a military spouse who believes in a higher power, I always have assumed the Army was God's hilarious answer to my control issues. I have never marked an Army date (like AT, now that my husband is in the Guard) in pen on the calendar, now I pencil in my son's stuff, too, LOL :)
