CULP in processing

The Embassy in Bosnia arranged an upgrade for the cadets during their 4 night stay in Dubrovnik Croatia at the Valamar Dubrovnik President Hotel to the 2800 sqft Presidential Suite. The suite had a huge roof top deck with a VERY large hot tub. The first night they were there they were all on the deck when a gentleman from the hotel came up to the deck and unlocked two large sliding doors to reveal a fully stocked bar. He told them that he was their nightly bartender and everything was compliments of the house.

I would have thought this a fish tale had I not seen the pictures he took.

Now I'm sure the cadets being honorable as they are kindly refused the service.

He said the toughest part of the 5 days was having to carry their kayaks back and forth to the beach.

I still hate him.

Can anyone give me some statics for CULP? like

Does each country have more than one team at a time? How many teams go each summer?

Yes I believe a country will have more than one team at a time. DS first mission was set to leave the week of 06/02 but he volunteered to be moved to mission that left 5/25. Sorry, I'm not sure how many teams go each summer.

Hey! I used to stay at that place before you wrecked the yacht. I don't bother now because without the yacht the blondes will have nothing to so with me!!!

That cracked me up!:yllol:

Always something

Thanks, sheriff3. One of the UNG cadets studying abroad in Morocco right now is staying with a family whose mom washes the clothes every day by hand. (I can't imagine.)

DS loved the showers at his fancy hotel, clear glass walls and basically in the middle of the hotel room. Never know what you might find.

CULP Guyana

Off to Guyana for Mil to Mil contact.

Several of my friends at USC applied, I was told roughly half of us got in. If you are interested, we had two for Korea, one for Kosovo, one for (Senegal?) a small African country, and one for Romania (changed from Ukraine).

Can't wait to ship out. Thanks so much for all the info!

It all depends on the country. Some like Spain have just about all of them in country at one time and others in places like Africa are one by one. It just all depends.

On the flip side of that. DS was retelling a story he heard about a CULP mission to Africa a few years back. Appearantly the cadets could only stay in a hotel approved by the State Dept. You guessed it... 4 star hotel. All meals had to be consumed in the hotel restaurant. A personal driver was assigned to every 2 cadets. Mission consisted of daily trips to the local base to fire whatever weapon happened to be handy... pistol, rifle, M-60,M203 and RPGs. I would have paid big bucks to go on this trip. :thumb:

That is still mostly true, at least with regards to what the Embassies will allow (and 4 star is a relative term, it usually means African 4 star, but there definitely are some nice ones). The country I am in has very strict rules from the Embassy due to the political violence and high crime and corruption rate in the country (it actually qualifies for Imminent Danger Pay and Hazardous Duty-Location Pay for servicemembers). Embassy personnel (including CULP) are not permitted to walk anywhere after 6pm everyday (you will likely be robbed if you do), are not permitted to take any public transportation and must use Embassy-contracted vehicles and Embassy approved and vetted hotels. In addition, there are many places off limits to embassy people here and every group must carry an Embassy radio in case of emergencies. And if you plan on traveling 30km from the Embassy or more, it must be approved by the Regional Security Officer. Granted, due to the high risk of violence here, the country I am in is definitely not the norm for CULP. There are guards and national police with AK's everywhere so that's been interesting.

The hotel the cadets are in is considered a 4-star I believe, but it would probably lose in a contest against a Motel 6 in the U.S.

Some fun CULP stories

-What Not To Do On CULP: Had a friend go to the Micronesia trip. Some cadets faced UCMJ for prositution...
-Georgia: Friend went to Georgia with some UNG cadets to get their mountain warfare badge. Looks pretty sweet on his ASUs.
-China:Friend went to China, obviously with all military people. People in the airport thought they were operators deploying undercover...

CULP trips can definitely change depending on the cadre on the trip!

Hahaha - the irony of thinking of this: ACU's + undercover. That must have been a fun day in the PRC.

What did you mean the trip can change depending on the cadre? Like, the itinerary can change?
