CVW Email Questions

DD will be going in March. Just her and I attending. Any other "solo" parents going? Maybe we could stay in the same hotel and meet up after the parent session? What hotel are ya'll staying at?

Have a great time! We attended last week's CVW. You'll have an amazing time! There were plenty of solo parents.

USNA won't view it as non-interest, just make sure your BGO knows why. For some its a $ issue and others it just doesn't work with school/sports schedules. It isn't worth admissions points because not all candidates can attend for a variety of reasons. If you are able to go, I would recommend to absolutely attend as its as close of view at you can get to what life will really be like as a Plebe. You shadow a Plebe, attend classes, ask questions, go to meals, sleep in the hall, and just absorb it all. I always recommend that is a candidates weekend to really find out if they can see themselves living this life for a full year and even the following 3. Its important to talk to upperclass also in majors you are interested in, 1/C who have been selected for your service assignment interests and talk to all classes there. Each class has its own view of USNA as they progress in the program and have exposure to different things in the fleet, training, opportunities. The summer programs are great as you get immersed in USNA, but they are not a reflection of USNA day to day academic life. Summer Seminar is a recruiting program and will expose candidates to what USNA has to offer, but it is not Plebe Summer or the Academic Year. I know they used to do 1 night that was supposed to mimic Plebe Summer in a toned down sort of way, not sure if they still do that or not. USCGA's AIM program is slightly different than SLE or Summer Seminar Programs as it much more matches what Swab Summer is like.
I'm just repeating what our ALO stated pretty emphatically. We've come to know him pretty well as he's been "recruiting" our DS over the past couple of years and my son is very good friends of his daughter and their family. But I also understand that there can be extenuating circumstances that can be communicated.

Like I said in a previous thread, they know who shows up, I know this as I explained in that thread. They'll even pull aside their top recruits during CVWs to encourage them.

Does anyone know approximately how many total candidates visit the USNA in a given CVW?
Each session is different depending on the time of year. During our October CVW visit last year, I would guess that there were perhaps 50 high schoolers. The majority were definitely seniors who were about to apply. 20%-30% were juniors just learning the process.

Our whole family is going. My DD, DW and I will be there and our DS will be flying in from college a day later. We are staying at a B&B somewhere in town (my wife set it up and I'm not sure of the name). I/we would be up for meeting up somewhere. Sorry I just realized that I will be of no help to you because I'm not going solo and I don't know where we are staying.

Don't worry plenty of time for parents to mingle and set up time for coffee, dinner or drinks in town. Hope everyone finds the CVW a great experience and good luck to everyone!
