My daughter is going to the CVW today and is really excited to meet her midshiman host and enjoy the weekend. How many candidates usually attend CVW?

My son is going today as well. Can't wait to hear about it!

My son is dragging one around! Ie the name -drag. My son did CVW last year and learned a lot. Hope they have fun.

DS really enjoyed it. Will help him to push even harder this year at MMI!

Back from a busy CVW weekend with the kid.

First thing he said to me when I picked him up: "Dad, I want to go here so much, this is where I belong" .

He now completely understood why his late grandfather just loved his time there, long ago. (Class of 1958)

They had a panel with (4) Mids, a 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st Classmen. The Boys were the Plebe and the 1st Classman, the Girls were the Youngster and the 2C.

Where do we get such great people? I know where, but you still burst with pride to find an Institution filled with the best of America!

For anyone there, I was the one at the Chauvenet Hall Q & A that asked the Mid Panel the most critical question of the Parent Program this weekend:

"Do you all have any Pillow Fights here?"

The entire room burst into laughter with heads shaking no at the thought .... so it is now confirmed , there are no *sanctioned* Pillow Fights at the USNA!

Glad to hear your DS enjoyed his CVW.
DS called Friday afternoon and told me he and his roommates were hosting 3 drags this weekend. I asked how it was going, thinking he'd recap about the early morning workouts, or taking his drag to class, touring the yard, etc ... Instead, he was excited about telling me that they ordered pizza and soda just like his Plebe host did during his CVW. It's all about food! Seems like they all had fun. DS admitted he used his drag to his benefit (certain "restrictions" are lifted when hosting a drag?) whenever he left his room. Then he cut the conversation off abruptly because he couldn't walk and talk ... Pizza had arrived at Gate 1

@murfthesurf
We were there this weekend for the CVW. Yes, we heard your "pillow fight" comment.. :) Nice one.

I think you were seated in the 2 or 3 rd row to the left. Are you from Northern Virginia?

I also agree with your comments about the student panel, what bunch of great Americans, we all have to be proud of them.

We loved the presentation by the STEM director. It made me feel that I should join the USNA [too late :)].

What a great college, a great institution that brings in the best in our children.

Consider yourself very lucky to get an admission to this great place of higher learning.

At the end of the day it is up to the student, USNA or USMMA or USAFA is not for everyone, it is for the focused and dedicated student who knows what he or she is getting in to. Our tour guide in the afternoon was the previous USNA Admissions director Mr. Chip Seymour. During our tour we came across a midship man[woman] who is graduating and she has applied to leave the Navy at the end of 4 years at the Academy and wants to transfer to Coast Guard instead of serving in the Navy!!! Unusual request at the end of 4 years at the USNA.

Please make sure you are going to USNA for the right reason and you know what you want in life.

They are Midshipman regardless of gender. It's a rank. And yes when they have drags they don't have to chop or do a lot of the Plebe things. Apparently the Plebes have gotten a smart and started having their drags wear their backpacks for them! I was laughing at that one.

Glad they enjoyed the CVW, it was crazy around the yard during that time!
