My son is going with my husband. They got all the information - I can check it tomorrow since it's in his room and he's asleep now. I'm pretty sure it was at 5:15-5:30 Thu to meet at Mitscher (sp?) Hall. No real info on parking other than you needed the letter and photo ID to park on the Yard - from my experience last January, it was just where you could find a space. Also says it ends at 11:00 on Saturday morning. Not a lot of other info - bring a towel and swimsuit, linens, a sleeping bag, closed toe shoes and at least one pair of pants.

Also make sure you bring clothes for PT...shorts, running shoes, etc. My son had to do a five mile run on Friday morning. Probably the highlight of the weekend to say he survived it! Enjoy, they have lots of things going on for the parents, tours, etc.

behrsmom - Was the 5 mile run something that all Plebes (at least in that company) did that morning?

i remember this time last year as my DS was getting ready for his CVW......i can only hope he is as good a Plebe to his "drag" this weekend as his was to him.....to all of you going this weekend, take advantage of anything your Plebe suggests......get up and do the company workout with him/her, ask questions, bring your homework - you can do yours when they are doing theirs, and ask more questions......the "plebe" you are assigned may be wanting to major in something completely different than what you may be thinking about, but he/she will have friends in their company who are following that course and can get you together......while i don't envy the courses you may have to sit through with your "plebe" - i do envy that you will be experiencing the best education you could ever hope for......i know when my DS left CVW he knew the USNA was for him and he's NEVER looked back.....GO NAVY !!!!

I agree with the above comments and I have to add: Definitely dress respectably; torn jeans, t-shirts that look ratty, open toe shoes & sandals should be left at home.

Also, the run or PT the company does should be exactly where your "drag" should be. If its a 3 mile, 5 mile or 1 1/2 mile run, just try to do it. Don't sleep in until 8am on Saturday even if your plebe says its ok. I think some plebes get the instruction to "test" their "drags" to see if they would slack if they could.

The 5 mile run was limited to the company of the plebe that he was assigned to. He actually enjoyed it, and said it felt good to know you could hang with the rest. Other parents whose kids were with other companies had different experiences. Just depends on where you are assigned.

As for the dress, almost all were dressed in polo shirts, and khaki pants, or khaki shorts. Son also took a backpack with him, as most did.

The most important part, we learned from this forum......was to bring homemade cookies to share. We traveled a long way by car, so I called and ordered 7 dozen chocolate chip cookies from a bakery. They were greatly appreciated by all.

A great experience, if you get an invite, please do not pass it up. It is a great way to see the Academy during academic year. Much different experience than visiting during summer seminar.

My son actually had an appointment to USAFA and USNA. USAFA being his first choice. We visited USNA one weekend, and USAFA the following weekend. He fell in love with the USNA, and knew it was the place for him. We made him follow through with the visit to Colorado Springs, but he knew in his heart where he wanted to be. He has had a great year, and is still close friends with the plebe he was assigned to for the CVW.

Well, it worked for us! Bailey just emailed me that her son would be hosting mine. My son called and requested it and they told him it wouldn't be guaranteed but took the name, company and all that info several weeks ago.

DS was assigned a plebe from 28th Co. during his CVW a few years ago ...He must have made a good impression with someone because he's now in 28th Co. and....enjoys a friendship with that plebe escort (now a Firstie).
And yes, he did take cookies for the plebes.:thumb:

I agree 1000% with this, a nice pair of khakis with some respectable shirts goes a long way. One of the drags we had in our room wore athletic shorts and a white t-shirt over the weekend he was here. He said he overheard some people saying stuff like "is there no dress code this year?" and other things of that nature. We obviously know that the candidates who come on the visit weekends are seriously considering coming to the Academy, but I think that it looks nice both for their plebe host and especially for the candidate if they dress respectfully. Show the rest of the people in Bancroft just how serious you are about getting in. Good luck to all and will be seeing all the "drags" this weekend.

Also remember that the Plebe you are assigned to will fill out a questionaire on you, so be respectful even behind closed doors.

Last spring I was "handed off," because my plebe had to go to practice, to a Second class as we were walking to formation. I was wearing a button down with slacksand he actually thanked me for dressing appropriatly. He said that he had seen a kid in an elmo shirt and was considering getting the name and writing a letter to admissions. Moral of the story, its another form of an interview, dress as such!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, should girls do khakis too? It's going to be kinda cold in November. Any recommendations for girls besides khakis--wool dress slacks?

She should dress comfortably. No need to "dress up". When my Plebe walked in for her CVW last Feb she wore khakis and a sweater top. When she walked out she was in NA sweats.
