CVW

I wore a polo shirt and khakis the whole time. That was fine, though there were some people wearing jeans, t-shirts, etc. However, they did seem slightly out of place to me. (Though it was pretty funny when I was wearing my NASS sweatshirt and khakis, and an ac ensign thought I was a firstie lol) As for athletic clothing, I was there in Oct so it wasn't TOO cold in the morning. I was fine in shorts, t-shirt, and a sweatshirt.

I found that the CVW was much more relaxed for the candidates compared to NASS. So, your son is not going to get in trouble if he isn't dressed nicely enough (within reason). Other than that, ask as many questions as you can. He'll have tons of opportunities to ask questions to mids of every rank and it's a great chance to get the "inside" on USNA!

We were out a few weeks ago and our son took as little as possoble. He wore business causal but there were attendies wearing everything from full ROTC uniforms to sweats. Dress in the middle and be comfortable since you will be in those cloths the whole time except for PT. They served chicken fingers and drinks during the initial presentation so get something more to eat before you go because that is it until morning. Also, some brought sleepingbags, my son did not but the plebes he roomed with found him a mat and he used his towel for a pillow.

Someone one ( a mid) on one of the other boards mentioned bringing a jacket and tie to the CWV for some sort of reception. I did not see anything like that in the invite letter--it said "attire for the weekend will be tasteful, comfortable casual clothes work out gear and swim wear." Anyone know anything about the more formal attire suggestion?

Things change constantly and with a relatively new Dant and Sup, there may be an occasion where a sport coat and tie is appropriate. If a Midshipman made the suggestion, then it is probably based on experience as an CVW escort, so I would take one along. If you don't need it, no harm, no foul, but if you go to something in a polo shirt and wrinkled pants, when a sport coat and tie would have been more appropriate then you would have wished you had taken the Midshipman’s advise. Wear it home and take your Mom or girlfriend out for a nice dinner if it is still clean.

I believe that was only for one of the earlier CVW. Normally no coat or tie is necessary. Your choice - bring or follow your letter.

No body here is looking at your daily attire. We certainly do not expect to see the drags in polo's and khaki's. Just be tastefull, as you hosts will be in uniform during the day.
