Can anyone fill me in on CVW. My KK has been invited to the Jan. 21 weekend and we need some details.
What time on the 21st would they like her there?
Will the USNA offer transportation from BWI?
When will she be released?(So i can book a return flight)
Any other information you think will help.

Thanks

My daughter and I just returned from the CVW this past weekend. She had a blast and it has cemented her decision to go to USNA (if she can get her nomination, etc.)

She had to be at the USNA by 5:15pm on Thursday and was released at noon on Saturday. The release time was dependent on the scheduled of midshipmen she was assigned to. Some visitors finished between 10-11am. We caught an early morning flight from Cincinnati on Thursday and an evening flight on Saturday to ensure there was enough time in case of delays.

The confirmation letter states that you are responsible for your own transportation to USNA and this includes from BWI to/from USNA. I rented a car at BWI since I was also going but there is also a "SuperShuttle" that runs often.

If you can go, I would highly recommend it. There was a lot of good information for the parents as well as a tour. Also, I wish I had thought to stay & watch the football game. That would have made the weekend that much more enjoyable.

I totatlly agree with Knarf. My son and I went and really had a great time. For the parents the information was great and the tour of the engineering/math/science building was awesome. I was so impressed by the facilities and state of the art equipment. I was amazed to see the plebe chemistry labs with only 20 students per class (only 10/class in the Organic Chemistry lab) taught by the professor and not by a grad student or TA! They also had an admissions briefing for the parents, a tour of the yard, panel discussions with current mids and current mid parents. We got to watch noon formation and the formal parade on Friday afternoon. We did stay and go to the football game on Saturday and had a great time but there were torrential rainstorms that made watching the game a little tough to enjoy. Navy did win against Wake Forest!

I highly encourage parents to attend if they can. If you can't that's okay the candidates were well taken care of and had their own briefings, meetings, tours, etc.

As far as transportation, I spoke with a few candidates who came by themselves and they were able to get the shuttle to/from BWI. When you get the confirmation letter from USNA it will give you the numbers for the shuttles and the times. We got there around 5pm Thursday (we drove there) and my son was done around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Make sure if your child wants to buy souvenirs that they go to the Mid store (it is right next to Bancroft Hall), as long as your student is with their hosting Mid or tells them that he/she is there for the CVW they should let them shop there. They have a much larger selection than the visitor center and the prices are much better.

Also, my son brought homemade cookies and other treats for his hosting Mids and it was very appreciated.

I just want to add that this is sooooooo easy. Parents really don't have to worry. BWI is a really nice airport.
When they come down the ramp to baggage claim there is a help desk right there. They are really nice and will show you how to get the shuttle.
easy peasy.
Also - if you fly out of an airport served by Southwest - look for tickets now - they are having a big sale, only until tomorrow!
(I do not work for SWA )

I was able to shop in the Midshipmen Store just by telling them my daughter was on a candidate weekend visit. They gave me a "temporary shopping pass". So... all ya have to do is ask.
