Daughter, a PFC, opened up her West Point portal to apply from the ranks.
Her CO, a West Point grad, gave her a glowing recommendation and was very enthusiastic about her applying.
Squad leader, not so much. He seems to be a good leader in many respects, but he seems irritated that she is applying to West Point.
On Monday she told her squad leader that her appointment for her physical was this week. He refused to give her the time off for her physical (they are not really doing much this week), chewed her out for thinking she was an officer already, is giving her a counseling statement, and cancelled her pass over an upcoming DONSA.
She only has the physical and the PT test left, but is thinking of closing her portal just to avoid the conflict with her NCOs.
She does not wish to use her COC open door policy, which I understand.
Option 2, I told her to sit down with her squad leader over coffee and have a heart to heart about this. Tough for her- I think typical of the iPhone generation they tend to avoid face to face conflict resolution.
Thoughts?
