DD got The call Friday afternoon! She received an appointment. I can't begin to tell you how proud we are of her. OK, so I knew I was proud of her appointment, but I found myself telling a complete stranger standing in line at Dunkin' for coffee Saturday am!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone on this forum - it has been and continues to be extremely helpful and informative. Especially Luigi and Objee. You guys are outstanding. I will continue to monitor this forum, and hope that I can pass along some helpful information to others in the future.

The work is so worth the reward.

Congrats to all of you!

Great news! I was the same way when we found out our DD had gotten the NROTC-MO - I found myself telling anyone and everyone until she finally pulled me aside and said I had to stop:rolleyes:

CONGRATS! It is fun to tell people about their appointment. Enjoy.
:groupwave:

Santa bringing gifts early this year. . .

DD was getting off a Southwest Airlines flight from Florida to Chicago for Winter Leave this weekend wearing a USCGA swim team sweatshirt (Firsties are allowed to travel in civies) and was stopped by the plane's captain at the door to the jet bridge.

"Are you at the Coast Guard Academy?" he asked.

"Yes, sir." DD replied.

"My son just got an appointment to the academy! We are very excited! How do you like the academy? What year are you? What are you studying? Do they have a good swim team this year? How are the teachers? What do you want to do when you graduate? Do you like the food?"

By the time he was finished, all the other passengers were off the plane! DD said that the captain had the look of a 5-year old on Christmas morning. The difference is his son will have 4-years to figure out how to put the "some assemble required" toy together.

Hope Santa brings you the gift you are wishing for.

Goaltoserve, she was in EA1. She hit "submit" probably 2-3 days before deadline. Good luck.

DD received a call about 2 weeks ago letting her know she made it in as well. She is very excited about the opportunities. She was EA I and attended AIM this past summer.

Congrats to the appointees and their parents, it's really an exciting time! R-Day will be here before you know it. (Heck, graduation/commissioning as well, it all goes by so fast as I found out).

Be prepared for the "You mean she's not going to college? But she's so smart!" responses when you share the good news.

Enjoy the remaining time they have at home, because (cue the tissue) once they leave for R-Day, they will never again live at home. And after the first 7-8 months (usually around Spring Break) they will be referring to Chase Hall as "home" when they say "I need to get home."

Turn their room into a den, library, sewing room, home theater, etc - do not leave it as a "Shrine To The Academy-Departed Child" as they will only be coming back for a few days each year.

DD Got the call!

Your DD is going to do great things. I have a co-worker whose DS is a senior there and loves it. He is a shining example of a leader and a great pleasure to be around. The young men and women who attend the SA'S are the best and brightest in the country.

Good Bless and God Speed,

RGK

Congratulations!!! DD is still waiting. She also attended AIM this past summer. Good luck everyone still waiting and have a great Holiday season!!

You could always do what my parents did: put all my stuff in storage and move halfway around the world to Japan. Talk about not keeping a shrine :shake:
