At what point do mids declare a major? Also, what major is recommended for someone wanting to go into specialized law enforcement career following military (FBI, CIA, NCIS, DEA, etc.)?

Plebes have been attending major briefs this semester. Some majors and departments also have informal open houses, where plebes can talk to the profs and upperclass mids already in that department or major, and tour the facilities and labs as appropriate.

As for how to choose, it's been said well and said often on this forum and others: choose a major that you like and can see yourself pursuing for your remaining 3-1/2 years by the bay. Every mid, regardless of major, takes courses in Naval law, leadership, government, and ethics, all of which will serve your mid well as a future LEO.

I wouldn't think that your major would matter for law enforcement as much as your grades, your service in the military, etc.

If you are thinking something IRT intelligence, you might want to consider the political science arena or cyber world; Navy has Intel officers...I'd investigate the SWO-Intel service selection option route if this is a serious consideration.

We pick our majors after spring break, around February after we have had all the briefs from the respective groups.
