Last night I was able to watch the Deepwater Horizon movie at a Coast Guard screening.

A little background, I separated from the Coast Guard in 2011. During the summer of 2010 I was deployed to the BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill response.

To say that it was a valuable learning experience would be an understatement.

For the most part I filed away the memories and hadn't really reflected on that summer, for years.

Seeing the movie brought a lot back.

They did an excellent job and I 100% recommend it.

That I saw the movie sitting next to a guy I worked with during the spill (he was at an Incident Command Post while I was at the Unified Area Command) made it more special.

@LineInTheSand thanks for sharing. I know this was a huge All Hands undertaking. I recall being very impressed by the CG admiral at the televised briefings. Radiated calm professionalism.

Just to be clear, the movie is about the actual disaster and not the spill or clean up.

There's Coast Guard in it, but it's the initial search and rescue response instead of the response to the spill.

LITS, thanks for sharing your take on the film. The trailers look good, but it is nice to see a Coastie's opinion!
