Defense Department Budget Cuts

Funny you should ask that.

Neither of my son's even had a printer at school, they rarely had to print anything out. Most of the larger essays and projects were done on the computer and then emailed or submitted through a blackboard site. Even essays that were sent in for corrections, these were corrected with remarks and then sent back via email. Most of the exams were electronic as well.

I remember sending my older son to school with 2 reams of paper, when he graduated he still had one unopened and the other almost full.

I'm curious as to why there would be so much paper printing at WP.

my school is the same. we read everything on line. most of our texts are online-we still buy them-actually we rent them on our computers/laptops and they somehow get "scuked" out of our computer at the end of the year-far cheaper than when we had to buy the books.

papers are turned in through turnitin.com we dont print and turn in.

engineering is all on computers

math does have some worksheets though. that class has the most paper.

To expand my early post, I normally print between 5 and 50 pages a night
-class reading assignments
-homework, prelabs, worksheets
-papers
-counseling, weekly reports, various other paperwork-type stuff
-room checklists, hand recepts (multiple copies), etc.
-plus a cover sheet for every assignment

Could the date of R-Day be changed due to sequestration, and how would that affect Beast? Would it be shortened? Just such a sad state of affairs in this country....

I'd like to echo this question: does anyone know the details of the schedule changes? More importantly, how much are funding cuts going to affect the amazing study abroad, specialist military school, and academic internship opportunities?

From BG Clarke, our new commandant of cadets
21 February 2013

"Finally, for the Classes of 2014-2016, though we are looking at

modifications to all our Summer training venues, I assure you that you will

have a great military training experience this upcoming Summer. The #1

priority for this summer is CLDT, which remains the CAPSTONE training event

for our cadets. We remain focused on each of you meeting your graduation

requirements of CFT, a leader detail, an IAD, CLDT, and CTLT. I believe

we'll gain more budget clarity in the coming weeks and will be in a better

position to make a more informed decision on our Summer training. I ask

that you have patience as the USCC team continues to work on what your

Summer will exactly look like. The more time we wait, the more clarity

we will be able to provide. Time is a friend in this situation - let's

take advantage of it. We will establish clear decision points that

must be made by certain dates that will lock in key training events.

Bottom line........we in USCC are monitoring all of your personal

Training needs. I give you my word.

Basically, West Point is bracing for the impact of 92 million in cuts, but nothing is secure yet until March 1st.

It is a "wait and see" game right now.

It's going to hurt.

This has been USMA for the last ten years...

Thanks for the laugh scoutpilot. Obviously, some of that money went to some advanced IT training for officers!
