I don't know how I can be deferred from this. Usually for colleges they request this from the school and isn't a consequence for the applicant. Also, my semester is still in progress. What's going on. Anyone have anything on this!?

You've got me. Admissions requested by email in mid-December that DS needed to have a first semester transcript sent as soon as it was available. They also stated that within reason the timeline of receipt would not affect consideration as long as it was received once it was available from his high school. Nothing about deferments. The email arrived the same day the Academy received his Senatorial nomination.

Not to stress about, DS had the same email a few months ago too. His first semester grades are not available till late January. Apparently, deferrals are more common this application year. See USNA Deferral thread for a little more information. Good luck you are still in the hunt!

I just posted 2 minutes after you posted with the same situation. They must be sending these out as the deadline gets closer.

I think the whole thing is tied to the date Admissions receives the candidate's first nomination. Probably different wording from different examiners in different regions.

Agreed. DS received an email requesting 1st semester transcript from Admissions 2 days before he received notification from MOC of his nomination. The email did not state anything about being deferred. He also received a call from his BGO saying Admissions also needs his math teacher to submit another recommendation since she didn't know him well enough when she submitted the first one. His BGO said this is a positive sign that the board is interested in him.

Ok. So I emailed back the admissions examiner and she just told me to send everything in when my semester is done but I'm worried because USNA is supposed to have a rolling admissions process and by the time I have my transcript in, it'll be mid February. I finished my app in September for the sole reason I could get word of my acceptance or rejection and if it was an appointment, TAKE IT. This is really scaring me as this is my dream school. I don't want to be one of the fully qualified candidates who doesn't get an appointment because of something weird. Anybody have any advice on what to do?

No connection to USNA, just a long time poster. Since when did the USNA go rolling?

Appointments do roll out, but not in the same way as a traditional college because the USNA needs to charge MOCs. An MOC can't be charged if a candidate on their slate has yet to receive their WCS. Thus, my question of when did USNA go rolling.... Unless you mean to.rolling into the national list.

"Rolling" is a relative term. Some applicants with packets complete early, will hear early. Those tend to be LOA recipients with Pres noms and then principal nominees with or w/o LOAs.

Once MOCs start submitting their slates, additional appointments start going out. Initially, those are likely to be LOA recipients who now have received an MOC nom. It could also be applicants in areas where very few qualified candidates received a nom -- typically b/c the MOC received few applicants -- in these cases, it may be relatively easy for USNA to select the slate "winner."

The majority of appointments are sent out in Feb. and March and these are made up of those winning their slates and from the national pool. Even these are "rolling" in that there is no one day on which everyone is notified or even most people are notified. USNA commits to notifying everyone by April 15 but, in fact, the overwhelming majority of applicants will learn of their decision prior to that date.

Deferred in 2012

Our DD had app't deferred for update on grades in 2012. In fact she posted here on 01/20/2012 inquiring on wording. Extrememly helpful posts to calm her down. She did recieve her BFE in middle of March that year. Doing well, Varsity sport and making Supt's List for academics. Hang in there as best you can.

Thanks so much. I hope it's not because I'm lacking any part of my app. Just gotta keep my grades up and show them in February that I'm not slacking.
