Ok, so my grandfather was a major in the ROK Army and was awarded the Order of Military Merit 1st class which is the highest decoration in South Korea for military bravery and valor, which is equivalent to our Medal of Honor. So my problem is that some people have said that I should put this in my application, while some have said to not put it in. Is it a need to know or nice to know for admissions?

Thanks

It is wonderful to be proud of your family and your heritage and the service your family members have performed. Writing it up from this perspective would be appropriate but not required.

IMHO Admissions want's to know about you and your accomplishments.

It would be good to mention in an essay for why you wanted to go to a service academy but not in your personal accomplishments.

Would it be worth mentioning that he attended and graduated from the Korean Military Academy right before the Korean War?

From the perspective civic29 and I mentioned, that would be fine. You can use it in one of your essays to provide context and background on your own thinking as to why you want to serve and why you want to to attend USMA.
