Direct Appointment?

    Can someone explain this statement received from an admissions officer --
    "You are competing for a direct appointment."

    Directly to the Academy as opposed to via NAPS or one of the foundation prep schools. It means, among other things, that the candidate has successully academically qualified.

    oh, OK, thx. I thought it might have something to do with the "national pool" I read about for those with noms but not the primary.

    My son's friend from school just received one of those today from USMA. But, Navy is first, though.
