Direct Deposit - Bank Choice

How to change direct deposit account?

Resurrecting this thread with a question:
When DS entered USMA he filled out his direct deposit form to have it go to his usual local bank. He now wants to change to USAA, but MyPay site does not seem to have the link for him to do it. He's been on phone and on web but no luck. Any ideas? Are cadets limited in what they can do on MyPay with their direct deposit changes? He called DFAS too and got some indication that maybe cadets and ROTC have restrictions different from other active duty &/or civilian DoD employees. Thanks in advance.

First, your DS needs to get a USAA account. This is a separate action that DFAS and the army can't do since it is a private company. Then he should be able to turn in a new DDA into finance.

Thanks 845... DS does have a USAA account. His issue is that he cannot find the process for redirecting his direct deposit from another bank to USAA. Since phone and internet seem to have resulted in dead ends for him, he may be better off going into the USAA branch outside Thayer gate and hope that they can get it done directly there.

At this point it looks like he is going to wait until he gets back from Buckner (starts Monday!) and make another run at it then.

Thanks for the reply.

Have to admit I don't know if MyPay looks different for Cadet pay but on the retiree page when you sign in you get the block to look at your statement, and also in that block is Pay Changes bolded (allotments, direct deposit, address) also bolded is taxes (federal, state).

Click on direct deposit and it shows the current bank with routing number and account number. Below that is a "change" box -- click on that and you can enter a new routing number and account number.

Hope that works in cadet system

Thanks greentrees. Another household member works for the Feds and her MyPay has those same links that you reference. But his differs for some reason. Either it's a cadet thing or it's a gaff rooted in a technical/IT issue or in a missing/incomplete form submittal back during Beast/reorgy last year. Leaving it to him to navigate at thos point unless a solution appears in the meantime. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Have you tried calling USAA?

Yes. The phone service person at USAA advised him to work it through MyPay. I think he may have better luck in person at the USAA branch. He'll be off-grid at Buckner for the next 4 weeks starting tomorrow and so it'll wait for another month at this point. His pay can go to the old bank for another while. He started this process with only a few days remaining of his leave between his MIAD and Buckner. Lesson learned by him that sometimes these things take time, but in this case it's a minor inconvenience to have it drag out.

I promise I will post the outcome on here so there is a record of it here for future reference by others.
