what is the difference between distant visual acuity and near visual acuity?
what do they measure at the eye doctor?

The difference is distant visual acuity is how well you see far away. Near visual acuity is how well you see nearby, as in reading a book.

The most common one tested at an eye doctor's visit is distance for young adults. As people age it is more common to add on a near vision test. In the military we will test both for those in the aviation community and I believe both are also tested at accession physicals.
