My son had some really good recommendation letters for his congressional nomination applications. Do the congressional nomination packets get sent to the admission offices at the academies if a candidate gets a nomination? The academies ask for recommendation letters from teachers only and my son had one non-teacher recommendation letter that reflects greatly on his past leadership experience and it would be nice if that letter was considered by the admission committee too. Thanks.

I am fairly sure that they don't. Sometimes the communication between the two is very limited. I have an LOA and when I went in for my interviews the committee was not aware of that fact. I had been told that they usually receive a list of names of all the people who have received LOAs from their state or congressional district. Also, many times nomination boards require that the letter be sealed and unopened. I'm sure you could ask the teacher for another copy and send that into WP. I think they will take a look at them, but I'm not sure.

Your DS can submit those letters to admissions using the gray envelopes that he was sent after starting his application or, they can be scanned and e-mailed to WP. Call the RC or staff at admissions to see what they prefer... check past guidance first though... remember, attention to detail and no self-inflicted wounds! Good Luck!

This is a question for buff81 or one of the other USMA FFRs. Or...contact Admissions.

I had received my LOA 3 days after my interview with my congressman. I contacted them, and they requested a fax of my LOA for full consideration. It can't hurt to give them a heads up
