I'm planning on applying for a 4 year AROTC scholarship. On the application there is a box you can check that reads something along the lines of: "I desire apply for admission to USMA". Does that mean I don't need a nomination?

Yes, you still have to have a nom to get into the Academy.

You do not need a nomination for an AROTC scholarship. Seems like they are just giving you the opportunity at that application to begin a USMA application. You would need one as part of acceptance to USMA.

The only reason they have that box available to check is to share some information between the ROTC boards and USMA admissions. It's still two separate processes, the ROTC app is just seeing if you're pursuing other avenues of commission.
