Alright guys, I am brand new to these forums, and for one reason, to find out what my chances are. I have been thinking about the USAFA for years now, and am trying to decide if I would fit in at a service academy or would be better off at a civilian school. However, with that being said, if I have no shot, then I can stop thinking about it.

Sooo... I will start off with the bad: My GPA is a 3.2, however I take all honors level and AP classes
The good:
- ACT is a 34
- Volunteer work @ a local hospital, animal shelter, and homeless outreach program
- Part time job @ Best Buy
- Varsity Basketball

And I also have a pretty good connection to one of my state's senators.

So, where do I stand?

You will absolutely not get a nom. nor an appointment, if you don't apply.

While they don't take weighted GPA's they do take into consideration AP and honor courses. Your ACT score is good! They look at the whole person.

USAFA also recalculates your GPA based on the rigor of your courses and your high school's profile.

First off welcome to the forums. Second Fencers is 100% correct if you don't apply you won't get in. That is the only thing any of us can say on here.

Since you're new I'll challenge you to search the site for a few topics. Search for "WCS" and also do a search for "what are my chances". Trust me you're not the first person to ask this very question. Keep in mind there are people that post on here that we call the no-brainer candidate. This is the person that would get accepted to any university in the country. That is your target but keep in mind that's like 10% of the people that make it to a service academy and very few people fall into that category.

Also on this site we use a lot of accromys for things. Go to this link if you're not sure what people are saying.

Your leadership roles will also be important. Also, don't think the connection with a Senator makes you a slam dunk for anything. Usually the Senators or Congressmen are not the people making the choices for appointments. Instead they are made by a committee selected by them. So the connection might help but it will be quite marginal. You'll need to work hard for it. Good luck!
