As we wait again this year stalking the mailman and this forum, I recall that last year someone posted some info on a documentary about life at the SA's. I thought it might be nice to watch it again but I'm not sure where to look. Anyone recall the specifics? Thanks!

It's called "Inside America's Service Academies" and it usually airs on The Military Channel. It's a 3 part series, 1 hour each.

It's a little dated, following the class of 2002 I believe, but its still fun to watch.

Surviving the First Year - Military academies boast unique physical and educational requirements.

No Time Off for Summer - Cadets struggle to overcome their physical limitations.

The Making of an Officer - Seniors serve as examples of high moral standards and honor.

One interesting tidbit while watching the series is that the CO of the USCG Cutter Eagle at that time was (then) CAPT Robert Papp, who is now the Commandant of the US Coast Guard.

Does anyone know when it will air on the Military channel? I tried to look on their website but was not able to bring up any information.

4 stars ago....that's when you know it's old....not to mention the uniforms.

For anyone who wants to see this series and has access to Discovery's Education Videos--you can watch it on there (ie if you are a teacher and your school district has that service, the videos are on there!)

Yep, many outdated things in the CGA pieces - reporting through the Arch at Chase Hall instead of at Leamy, Eagle docked at the Academy instead of Ft Trumball, R-day swabs in Trops, X/Y/Z companies, and Cadet Memorial Field had a grass surface.

I was looking at HULU yesterday. I would not log into it. The site has been seized by federal authorities...

That's not true. They were not seized by the federal authorities. If they were it would be front page news on every site on the internet.

Hulu only has 100% legal authorized content.

You may have www.hulu.com confused with some other site, they are 100% legal and legit.

The clarification is fine but -- going forward -- let's not turn this thread into a discussion of Hulu. Thanks.

Documentary

You could try your local library. I was able to do that 2 years ago and my daughter spent hours and hours and hours glued to the TV watching. I thought the series might sway her away from the military when she saw all the intensity. Instead it made her all the more determined. LOL!

One correction:

It's actually titled "Inside America's Military Academies" (not "service" academies - my mistake).

I'm so used to always including USMMA as one of the 5 service academies but I forget to exclude them when we talk about the 4 military academies.

The Military Channel replays the series a couple time per year, but it's random. Best suggestion is to keep checking the Military Channel website for the program. The website shows programing content forward for about 2 weeks in advance.

If you want to own the series. Google Search " Inside Americas Military Academies" and you will find the links to the Discovery Channel Store and can buy the 3 DVD's. They are not cheap at about $50 each.

Or you could simply wait for the "free" version, a government-sponsored live performance specially conducted by current cadre of the Academy, due out on I-Day in a few months. I understand that the live performance gives you a much better feel for the place than the movie!

Hysterical! :shake:
Laughing makes the waiting easier.

Not sure if I'd call it "free" with the rental graduation house and playing host to about 20 relatives.

But I will have a newly minted Marine! Hooorah!
