Yes, 2018....Oklahoma.
In reference to sharing stats of new candidates....... I am not sure that anything is gained by sharing. What we have learned is there is no magic formula to grades, standardized testing, leadership, etc. We have had friends who have had phenomenal grades and still haven't gotten appointments. DS has pursued the USNA since he was a freshman. He is a highly recruited varsity baseball player. He has been to the Academy five times for different events. He has made it point to meet with different leaders when he has been there. (Officers, coaches, influential retirees, etc.) They know is desire and have followed him for a couple of years. He attends a very difficult prep school that has a 100% college matriculation rate. He has four years of Mandarin Chinese (We were told he was the first varsity baseball player to ever come to the Academy with this level of knowledge of the Chinese language).
All of the above said, his GPA is very high and his standardized test scores are fine (not off the chart). He has performed several hundred hours of volunteer work. He has worked in leadership positions. He was the captain of the varsity baseball team as a junior.
I wish I could nail down 'the perfect scenario". It has been a lot of work on his part that has gotten him this far as outlined above.
I am not sure this helps answer any questions. It may only add to the frustration of trying to help guide our DS/DD to the exact path to an appointment.
One final comment, this forum has been fantastic in educating us on the level of candidates that are trying to get an appointment. The USNA is truly a remarkable place.
