DoDMERB for ROTC

Our son is currently a freshman in college, and is still in the running for both USNA and USMA. But he's decided not to reapply for a third time if it doesn't work out for the Class of 2018, and has begun the ROTC Scholarship process. Our question involves his medical status: he's qualified for both Academies, so does that make him qualified for ROTC as well? If so, what's the process for getting official notification of that? He showed a copy of the letter from DoDMERB listing him as qualified for the Academies to an ROTC officer, but apparently was told that they needed proof of qualification for ROTC. Any info would be greatly appreciated - as always!

The DoDMERB results are good for 2 years. When my son got an AROTC scholarship, they requested the results from DoDMERB (was already qualified for USMA & USNA) and he was then qualified for AROTC. If your DS gets a scholarship, they will automatically request his medical. I know I read on here when medical is requested if not on scholarship but I don't remember (only when ready to contract? 3rd or 4th yr?).

Thanks!

That's kind of what I thought... that they wouldn't waste time worrying about the physical until your application was finished and you were otherwise qualified. If ROTC only asks for results later in the process, he'll have to have another physical anyway because it's been 18 months now and will expire early next fall.

I have a bit of a twist on Raseo1son's question. DS was DQ'ed by DODMERB but received a waiver from USNA. We didn't do anything to initiate the waiver, just provided information related to the disqualifying condition. I'm assuming USNA's waiver won't help DS out with ROTC. How does the ROTC waiver process work, or is there one?
