today, a letter arrived from DoDMerb telling my son that he has been medically qualified.

He was also accepted into the top choice school he was given the 4 year national scholarship to.

So, this is it, right? Is there anything else that needs to be done/submitted between now and till he shows up for the orientation week at the college?

If it were only that simple...

First he will get the final confirmation letter in April timeframe where he will have to confirm the acceptance of his scholarship.

He will then get a pile of paperwork to fill out from his unit sometime after the April confirmation letter is processed. As I remember, it will include the background check where you have to list every place you've lived in the past 5 years and any trip out of the country, etc. Welcome to the Army.

However, as far as qualifying for the scholarship, he is done.

I would not fret too much about the large load of paperwork. Fill out what you can and when he reports in the fall, they will help him with the rest. Especially the security clearance.

Don't forget he will need to pass his APFT prior to contracting. Make sure he's doing lots of pushups, situps, and running 2 miles every once in a while. And finally, stay healthy and out of trouble, and don't blow off the senior year of high school.

Congrats

I was excited today to see my Dodmerb status change to Qualified. It feels nice to be able to take a breath.

I have accepted to the same school my brother, a MS3, is attending. They have told me that I will complete the paperwork during the orientation and the first week of school. I will be running track this spring and I'm sure my brother will make sure I'm ready physically. I took the AFPT for my application and got a 245, I want to improve my push ups so I can get at least a 80 score on both the p/u and s/u, I run a 10:40 2 mile so no problem there, I just don't want to be on remedial PT, I want that freshman Ranger Challenge A-Team spot.

Now I can just concentrate on the rest of high school.

Good luck to everyone, I'm sure there will be a lot more congratulating going on after the next board
