DoDMERB Question

afjrotc cadet,

The good news is that the waiver authority requested additional information. If the physician states that there is no problems then I would think the chances of a waiver are pretty good. The waiver authorities can take up to 30 days to process new information. I would contact my admissions officer to let them know that there is new information for the waiver authorities to view. The admissions officer can put a little pressure on the waiver authorities to view the new info in a timely manner.

I'm confused by what's showing on my DoDMERB website status. Right now it looks like:

Please do NOT Complete the additional tests, evaluations, or requests for additional information (codes that begin with "R") unless directed to do so by DoDMERB. If a medical waiver is granted, DoDMERB will request you complete these at that time. If a medical waiver is not granted, DoDMERB will not require these results or information. Completion prior to that "may" result in unnecessary expenses and infringement on your time.

I have two questions. AFROTC had updated it's status to "D260.70 - Waiver Denied - AFROTC" on 14 MAR 07, but then updated it to "R222.00 - Obtain a scoliosis study, to include Cobb measurements" on 04 APR 07. How does that work? Also, what does it mean when there's a "Correspondence - Multi-Service Disqualification, Waiver Denied: *NONE*" showing? Does that mean they're expecting my wavier to be denied?

OK, let me start with the easy stuff first. From what you have there it appears that USMA is requesting additional information, and since there has been a change to AFROTC it also appears that they are going to request additional information, even though they previously waiver denied you they might have decided to take another look.

As for the correspondence that states *NONE*, it could be the reviewer on your case generated a letter, and then canceled the letter before it was printed. That isn't anything to worry about there.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Scoliosis/kyphosis is an issue if its over a certain degree measured by the cobb method (x-rays and radiologists readings).

Thanks for clearing that up RetNavyHM. I got a call from one of the USMA outreach officers on 30 MAR 07 and he said they were still reviewing my file. He said it would take them another week or two before they rendered a decision regarding my waiver. I'm just anxious to know because I've been waiting for word since December.

After I got my waiver I sent in some stuff that AFROTC had requested (the scoliosis series) now everything on the dodmerb site is showing

What happened?

Anytime new information is received at DoDMERB on a disqualified applicant the status should change on everything BUT the status that is waiver granted. As long as the waiver granted code is still on the USMA file, then that is its current status. It looks like there may be an issue with the way the DoDMERB web site is decoding the info it receives. I will pass this on to the DoDMERB Director to be fixed. There is nothing to worry about with your waiver and USMA.
