Hey,

I'm in the process of scheduling my DODMERB for USAFA, I was just wondering, when you actually arrive at the exam, what happens, and what do they test? I don't expect to be DQed for anything, I'm not asking about a drug test or anything like that, I just want to know what to expect. I hear most of it is paperwork, I heard they do not draw blood, something about reading a paragraph to listen for speech impediment, someone who took DODMERB recently, can you please explain the actual process?

They do make you read a paragraph, they do not draw blood. Also they can always make mistakes, the remediated me for something called "pectus excavation" if you image search it you can imagine how it was a mistake.

You read a paragraph, listen to ever fainting beeps through a pair of head phones while inside a sound proof box, pee in a cup, classify any acne you may have, get measured and weighed, have every nook and cranny of your body checked for tattoos, bumps and lumps (and by every, I mean every), have every muscle group poked, prodded and tested and then they will also go over your paper work with you to clarify your medical history and such. It's a pretty thorough exam.

Seriously, don't stress about it. It's very simple and you'll be out in an hour or so.

They also verify your gender and check for hemorrhoids. Both the doctors in the room were older woman, I asked them if they would at least take me to dinner first. That got a few laughs haha. They still checked... it was quite uncomfortable.

yah, they did that too. If you are an athlete, the physical examination is very comparable to an athletic physical.

On my DD and DS's physicals, they said they no longer have to take urine specimens, so they did not provide them.

Of note for female candidates...

They also indicated that women would have a limited gynecological exam and could go to their own doctor for that portion of the test, so my DD did. This should be done before the DODMERB exam so the GYN report can be given to them at that time.

This was an EXTERNAL exam only - not a pelvic exam. Basically they just look to make sure everything appears acceptable and that there is no history of problems, plus they conduct a breast exam. Then they write up a short report addressing DODMERB concerns and you are on your way.

If you choose to go this route, just call DODMERB before the exam and ask for the list of things they want your doc to check and address. It is short - maybe eight items? - and they just read it to you over the phone.
