No they don't. New York and Maine Maritime both have NROTC units and oddly enough Mass Maritime has a cross town Army ROTC program that meets on the MMA campus but they don't have an NROTC program. that being said- you can still receive a Navy Commission from Mass Maritime thru the MMR program but you can't use an NROTC scholarship there.

What they have is a SIP program. I dont know what it stands for but what you can do is get paid $8000 a year for 4 years. and during college all you have to do is take naval science two or something like that. you also have to pass an easy fitness test once a year.

and once you get out of college you have the choice to be in the active duty for three years or reserve for 6 or 8 years. and you would go into the special merchant marine division.

and in the reserves you would only have to go for about two weeks a year and the dates are very flexible.

i am looking at doing the same program! and also my facts might be wrong but i met with one of the recruiters and this is what i remembered that he told me so before you sign up please do not take what i said as fact! lol

i hope this helped!

I couldn't find this on the Mass Maritime Web site but at the attached NY Maritime site an explanation of the MMR/SIP program is available. The MMR program with SIP is the same for all of the Maritime Colleges:

Merchant Marine ReserveThis is a program unique to the maritime schools that allows students earning unlimited licenses as Merchant Marine Deck or Engine Officers to be commissioned as an officer in the Navy Reserve upon graduation. MMR officers normally serve on inactive duty in the Individual Ready Reserve allowing them to work as civilians in the maritime industry. They serve on active duty when required to support military sealift operations that call for the training and experience of licensed Merchant Marine Officers. The program also offers limited opportunities to pursue an active duty commission upon graduation as a line or staff corps officer in the Navy.
The program is open to students who are participating in Coast Guard unlimited License program. Students normally apply and start Naval Science training at the beginning of their freshman year.

Qualified students may apply for the Student Incentive Payments (SIP) funded by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) during their freshman year. SIP benefits amount to a maximum of $16,000 with the first payment for a full freshman year of participation of approximately $4,000 being received at the beginning of their sophomore year. Students then receive quarterly payments of approximately $1000 until graduation/commissioning or maximum benefits are paid out.

MMR students must be physically qualified, complete three Naval Science courses and (at SUNY Maritime which has NROTC) participate in all NROTC Battalion drills and activities to qualify for SIP and/or commissioning. Students may participate in the MMR program without receiving SIP. Simultaneous enrollment in the NROTC College Program, basic standing, to compete for NROTC scholarships is allowed and encouraged.

Following graduation and commissioning, MMR Officers must maintain an active Coast Guard merchant officer license for at least 6 years, serve in the Navy Reserve for at least 8 years, and work in the maritime industry. MMR students may request to serve on active duty following graduation with many of the same Navy opportunities enjoyed by NROTC program students.

Qualified students may begin the application process for the Student Incentive Payments (SIP) funded by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) during their senior year of high school. SIP benefits amount to a maximum of $32,000 with the first payment for a full freshman year of participation of $8,000 deposited as an electronic funds transfer. Students then receive one lump sum payments of $8000 at the beginning of each school year until graduation/commissioning or maximum benefits are paid out.
