    Hello,

I am a 1995 grad of USMA and a 1991 grad of USMAPS. I want to know has anyone seen a MILPER message about computation of total time including the Prep School for retirement?

    1995 Grad:rolleyes:

I'm "assuming" the US Army rules are the same as AF (DOD wide) and yes, the AF Prep school year does count as one year of active duty for retirement computation.

USAFA PS candidates enlist in the AF reserve and are then ordered to active duty for the year they're at the PS.

I am not sure that all students that go to USMAPS join as reserves, like NAPS students

    Might Have Changed

Can't really answer OP's specific question, but for NAPS it looks like it possibly changed over the years. Being one of the "older" crowd, we graduated in late 70s and NAPS did count towards retirement, ie 19 years after commissioning we were eligible to retire and during active duty we got the FOGEY pay raises a year prior to our non-prior/NAPS classmates.
However, when DD received orders to NAPS, it clearly stated that her time was not eligible for retirement calculations nor for educational benefits. I think someone finally wised up on a double good deal!!

I went to NAPS last year, and we were told many times that our year there counted towards retirement.

NAPSters become active duty once they report to Newport. They're only in the reserve for a couple of weeks.
