I am a college freshman who got my BFE yesterday. By far the greatest day of my life, nice knowing the hard work the second time around payed off. I am curious though as to if my second semester college grades matter, as the only reason I ask is that I believe I can still get money back from this semester if I were to drop my classes. Its not that I am lazy or anything like that its I just don't see the point in spending the money on classes if the credits don't count for me at west point. Thanks for the help guys!

Hummm, usually the appointment letter says something like the appointment is conditional of continued academic excellence, etc, etc, so I would contact your admissions counselor at WP before you decide to do such a thing.

My son was told that even if the BFE came the last set of grades were reviewed! How exciting and good luck!

was he in high school or college? I know you 8th semester grades for high school are still important. I am more curious about my second semester college grades, seeing as the transcript I sent to USMA didn't have the classes I was registered for anyway I wonder if it is still going to be reviewed.

    College Grades

My DS is in the same position as you in college. And your grades will be requested and reviewed. Work hard at keeping your GPA high and your nose clean. WP has the authority to pull back your offer.

What happens if you're not able to or if you may have to send them late? If I get accepted and West Point asks for my spring semester grades it may be delayed because of a financial situation. Basically my school won't send out transcripts until your tuition and fees are paid for. What do I do if I end up in that situation?

when do grades become an issue? Like as long as you dont make what or maintain a certain GPA? As I am in an upper level stat class (dont know why I took and a long story) and honestly doubt my ability to make above a C. I mean as long as I dont fail anything it shouldn't be something that can get my offer pulled right? and armyStrong I would call admissions and ask.

I would say it's better to be safe that sorry. I would not drop the classes. You will still want those classes if you get injured or can not attend WP this coming year for some other reason.

    Late Grades

At times if your college semester finishes late and will report your grades after R-Day. This should be avoided as much as possible, you will need to meet with a admin rep and explain the situation and they should be able to accommodate.

Congratulations. A couple of questions: Would you blow off ROTC also? How would you notify the PMS who evidently recommended you to USMA?

I would also point out you started off by stating from a financial perspective, but at this point I highly doubt your college would give you a penny back since you have been in classes for @ 7-8 weeks and will be coming up on mid-terms anyday now. Thus, the idea of cost saving would be moot.

I would also check with admissions if you drop Stats, because it may appear on your transcript as dropped no grade, and at some schools this can impact your cgpa, because a drop is different than withdraw. I know for our 2 kids you have only 10 days before they change it to drop, and that goes on the permanent transcript.

Your transcripts will arrive way before you do because if I recall correctly your college ends the 1st week of May...almost 3 months prior to you reporting.

If you are having trouble with Stats get a tutor, turn off the Xbox and crack the book over and over again, heck sleep with it under your pillow too hoping osmosis will work.:shake:

USMA from an academic perspective is an Ivy. As others have stated by staying in these classes you only gain, if not from a validation position, but personally from an academic perspective it will be easier since this will not be new material, whereas for many of your peers this will be new.

As far as the Cadre, I know at our DS's AFROTC det. they are officially informed of the appointment because they are a nominating source. I do agree that out of respect go in today and tell them personally of the appointment and your decision to accept it.

Your PMS should be proud of you if you were selected. Of course they will be a bit sad that they are losing a great Cadet, but they know that you will still be serving with them. Just be up front with them and do it as soon as you can - honesty and integrity are big throughout the Army. That will help them make scholarship decisions if they get to keep any dollars they had tied up with you and help forecast who they can/should contract.

at the school i am at i can drop a class and get a W grade with no impact 3 weeks before the last day of classes. I wasn't nominated through ROTC, I plan to tell them when I get back from Spring Break after I talk over things with my family. I do agree I dont see how the couldn't be anything but proud. In regards to classes, should I contact admissions before I drop anything even if the only thing I get on my transcript is a W with no impact on GPA. Thanks for all the help guys especially you Pima you have answered a ton of my questions. 2 more months til I am done at my college and then 2 months!!!

If I were looking at a W on a transcript my first thought would be - were they about to fail a class and withdrew OR did they start something and then decide it was too much work so they withdrew. Tell me how either of those would look to West Point.

You are going to wait until after spring break before you inform the Cadre? If I recall correctly the college you are attending that means March 18th. 3 weeks!

It appears you have decided to accept the appointment, yet you are going to wait 3 weeks to inform them of your decision.

Call the ball now since you know you won't be returning. If you have doubts because of your grades that is different, but if it is grades, than as others have stated the issue is different regarding attending in July.

OBTW, are you saying the folks didn't know you were applying for USMA? That you have yet to inform them? Again, why the wait for almost a month to accept?

Finally, as far as it goes with should or shouldn't you drop, you are in an AROTC det. on a campus that is host to AROTC. The cadre members are AD military, they know the system better than 99% of the posters here. Why on earth would you take our advice over them that are posted at your college and wear the ranks of AD Army? It makes absolutely no sense to me. They know you, they know the Army, they know your college. We know cadet sjbd94...not you. We know you are a freshman at college, not the profile of the college. We know you are having stat class issues. We know you would like to call it a day now, and leave college for fiscal issues. Nothing more...no ranking in the det, no PFT scores, no college major. You really want to trust us over your CoC with that information as our guidance? I wouldn't! Love the posters here, but this is an anonymous forum.

Also, honestly I don't think you are accepting what has been stated, you want to hear a different answer. You want to hear/read drop the classes, and all will be fine. JMPO, but everyone is saying don't, and you keep re-phrasing your question with the identical answer no matter what. Re-read through the responses, not one person has said drop, yet you keep moving forward with dropping.

Call the ball...talk to them NOW!
