Doolie Day "In" 2010

Sponsor family can't be your own parents (i.e. they live nearby).

Aggie - are you sure? Not trying to be challenging, but I know a couple cadets who are doing it this year. I'm not certain how the sponsor thing works, but was pretty much told they can sign out and go to any sponsor, not just "theirs" and that family was fine. Of course it may be different during DDO (and a moot point :frown: ) when it's more restricted, but not even during the year?

That is what the rules said specifically in the Sponsor information that came in the appointee packets. The reason I know is that we gave serious consideration to buying a house in Colorado Springs if we could be our cadet's sponsor family (my husband can do his work from anywhere as long as there is a sizable airport within an 1-2 hours so we could move there). When I read that rule, I figured someone before me had tried it, hence the rule. Now.. in practice that rule may not be being enforced.

Well, if we ever got those appointee packets that are coming in February  maybe we'd know these things! I just know his friend's parents have sponsored cadets before (not their own) and were certain they could this year. Guess we'll see!

2014 Doolie Day In & later Doolie Day Out

Word on the 2013 parents forum is 2014 will get Doolie Day Out in early August, plus DDI 10 July:

This is from Barbara Gutierrez:

Here's more information: On 10 July the Doolies will participate in Field Day in the morning and go to Arnold Hall in the afternoon for Doolie Day In. Apparently, the cadets loved this last year because they were able to spend all their time on the phone with their families without worrying about offending their sponsors by being on the phone the entire time. So, this is an additional perk! Sometime after BCT (early August) the "real" Doolie Day Out will take place and they'll go to their sponsors' homes.

I'm kind of wondering if they are behind in the schedule or something. They have never marched out on a Sunday before (to the best of my knowledge). DDO is typically on that Sunday and they march out on Monday. They will also have much less time to switch out cadre for 2nd Beast.

Later,

Brian

it doesn't really matter... just go to your parents houses on the weekends no big deal lol

I have a sponsor family but find myself at my relatives house in the area all the time..

Actually, they can, or at least this use to be allowed - we were and still the sponsor family for our Cadet - just had to apply

From page 2 of this years Instructions to Appointees "Parents residing within 50 miles of the Academy may sponsor their own cadet but must first register as sponsors in the program."

That pretty much clears it up.
