Duty Assignment - December Graduate

DS said he will have around a 3.4 or higher at the end of this semester. His PT score is 270. And "He" says that he is at the top of his ROTC MSI class/ranking. If all continues, hopefully, he will be able to have several options for what he is seeking. I just don't like the way he claims that he will be guaranteed an AD slot. I want him to know and understand his position and what is needed for him to accomplish his goals.

Of course, DS never lacked in the self confidence department. So, he thinks "I've got this! No problem!"

Praying it is so.

Well, he is off to a good start and I suppose he has some reason to be confident. That being said, nothing is ever guaranteed. So much depends on the pipeline, budgets, and other things out of his control. Of course he can only address what he can control. Keep him in his toes and aware but I wouldn't burst his bubble either. Confidence counts for a lot.

LOL. It sounds like your son and mine were twins separated at birth. I am getting the exact same lines. I am sure the cadre will be instilling "reality" as they move into MSII and MSIII years.

3.4 gpa and a 270 apft is not bad for a MS1, but honestly, that is the average for most cadets. Even the apft score may be a bit below average. My graduating class had an apft average of somewhere around 290ish. Now, if you have a 4.0 and a 270 apft score, that can be considered guaranteed, but there are so many other factors in play such as WF performance, cadre/PMS evaluations, extracurriculars, etc.

I went to a SMC and we were "guaranteed" active duty, much more so than any SROTC program other than the service academies. Even though we were "guaranteed," the PMS only gave about 3/4 of us active duty due to gpas, apft scores, when compared to the national average.

So true! Faith and Believing in oneself can give them the confidence to achieve the goals they set. You can move mountains with a positive attitude.:shake:

There are so many factors that come into play when they are making those decisions. I don't think that his scores/gpa or anything he does at this time will be a true indication of his position at the end of his college career. However, the totality of the entire 4 yrs will be part of the package.
