EA II contact from CGA

We're still hoping and praying to see that BFE in the mailbox, but getting a bit discouraged. The posts of appointments from EA2 seem to have tapered off. At this point, does anyone know if its mostly TWE on the way?

there's still technically a week left for them to decide but I'm starting to get anxious myself:frown:

EA I notification deadline was Dec 24 and DS was notified Dec 20 that he had made the waitlist. Feb 1 is a still a week away. All the best.

I got the call on 1/24 for EAII! I was told that the BFE should be here with in a week.
(Yes I am a recruited athlete, but I also have good stats)

Best of luck to all of you!

Very Nervous about EA2

I'm getting extremely nervous. I am afraid that as the Feb. 1st date approaches, the less likely the news will be good. Have many people been notified about EA2 decisions (other than recruited athletes)?

If it makes you feel better I still haven't heard either :frown:
They technically have 3 more days to decide. I'm annoyed because I may not even be able to get to my computer until like Sunday night because I'm going away for the weekend.

Don't freak out until it is time to freak out!

My DD applied EA2 last year, and her offer for the Scholars program (prep school) was posted to her portal at 4 pm on the last day that an answer was promised by.

I remember her checking these boards those last few weeks, just like you all are, and getting very concerned. IIRC, not many people heard anything before she did.

My son is waiting on an EA 2 decision, also. I would be interested to know how many are notified of appointments at the last moment vs being deferred or declined for admission at the last moment.

Sadly, portal was updated with a decision this evening. DS did not receive appointment. Best of luck to others waiting.

DS got call yesterday afternoon that he will be offered place in scholars program. Not great news but not bad news. Anybody else in the same Cutter ?

wellness1,

Sorry to hear the disappointing news on the appointment. Just curious what the plan B for your DS is? With no Coast Guard ROTC, the alternate paths might initially seem murky for future CG Officers not attending the SA.

Don't despair, I'm sure there are many folks here that can and will lay out a path that could get your DS to his ultimate goal some other way. Good luck!

nigel...did DD take prep scholl offer ? if so, what is hers/your experince of it. DS was offered prep school and disappointed but maybe a blessing in disguise ?

Prep school is nothing to be disappointed about. If USCGA is the goal, CGAS is a perfectly fine path. My son took it in a heartbeat. He is doing just fine as a 4/C. His CGAS class was told in any other year, they would have been direct appointments. It has gotten that competitive. And should they be given direct appointments at the end of that year (not all make it), they will ready for Swab Summer, have experienced study skills, and have money in the bank.:thumb:

I can understand why she would be disappointed, CGAS is a terrific opportunity. She will attend a military junior college where she will take college level courses in math, science, and writing. She'll be able to spend a year in an academy environment, and will make contact with people from across the country and with a variety of service goals. Finally, she will be active duty Coast Guard, which means she'll get pay and benifits of a Coast Guard E-2. Not too many programs actually pay you to go to school.

If you have any questions about CGAS, drop me a PM. I also suggest you look up the websites for both Marion Military Institute and Georgia Military College. They are the schools that CGA sends the scholars to. Do not start the application process at the schools, though, until she's been notified which school she is being assigned to.

There is a Facebook group called USCGA Scholars Program at https://www.facebook.com/groups/14986475457/ There you can find former, present, and future scholars, as well as parents and officials from CGA, MMI and GMC.

Congratulations to her! BZ

Thanks AuxNoob and Physcisguru for your encouragement. As parent of DS I am not disappointed and probably feel it is in his best interest for prep school. I hear only positive things about it.May take you up to send you a PM to find out more thoughts and details.

The CGAS program is a great opportunity. My son was in the same CGAS class as AuxNoob's son. He completed the year at Marion and did fine. However, he came to the conclusion by the end of the year that the CGA was not for him and he resigned rather than accept the appointment. He is glad that he spent the year at Marion as it gave him more time to figure out what he did and did not want to do and it prepared him well for his new direction. He learned a lot about himself and made some good friends and as a bonus banked quite a bit of money. If your son is interested in becoming a Coast Guard officer this is a great opportunity.
