I was thinking about driving up to see the Eagle while its in port in Charleston and to check out the Citadel while im there. Will I be able to actually tour the Eagle or anything like that? If not, Id rather go see the citadel while classes are still in session.

When the Eagle is in port, it is usually open for tours.

3/c cadets (Phase II) will be on board when it docks in Charleston June 26-29.

I remember I went to see the Eagle when it was in San Francisco. I had a third class cadet give me a tour of the ship. But they wouldn't let me see inside the ship. I guess they were too busy getting ready to sail or something. Anyways, they really give you some insight on what the academy is about and about Eagle.

I have a feeling this will be the highlight of my summer. Of course until I go to AIM. This is off topic but how much sailing will I get to do at AIM?

I'd love to see her when she's in port, since we live in SC, but

I'd RATHER be en route to New London to drop off darling son!

We love to go to Charleston, but New London is going to <<<< hopefully>>>> be our new favorite destination!

Only one day most cadets sail in Colagates and they make you wear a helmet. I talked to the coach, Mark Zagol, before AIM though and he let me sail a laser radial without a helmet. He's a really nice a guy and a phenomenal coach, he used to be Anna Tunnicliffes coach and he's still friends with them.

They won't let you see the inside of the ship because that is the living area of the ship. While many operational ships will allow tours inside parts of the skin of the ship, much of EAGLE's insides are berthing areas. Many of the "operational" spaces back aft and above deck. Just like you would generally not want hundreds of people walking through your bedroom while you're changing, they try to avoid that happening to the cadets/crew as well.

The cadets you meet on EAGLE will be in the "thick" of the Academy experience. There are no better people to have talk about being a cadet than those who are cadets, now.

How did you get in touch with the coach? I have been sailing lasers for 4 years and would prefer to do that over colagates.
