Early Action or Regular?

Hello, I have a few questions about the Coast Guard Admissions. I'm a little confused if I should apply early action or regular admissions because I've been reading forums stating that early action this year is going to be different. Instead of accepting and deferring applicants, USCGA will accept or reject early action applicants. Therefore, I heard that it's better to wait until regular admissions especially if you're not an outstanding candidate. (I don't qualify my standards to be OUTSTANDING.)

On the other hand, I've heard that because there aren't too many people applying for early action, it is statistically better than to apply for regular. There are more chances in getting in early action rather than regular.

Can anybody help me on what I should decide on? If you want, I can PM you my basic information such as GPA, SAT, CFA (I'm planning to take the PFE soon), and extracurriculars. Thank you for your feedback!

The only real difference between this year and last year?

The 96% of "deferred" candidates who didn't hear "no" until April will now hear "no" in Dec/Jan.

No sense in stringing them along, better to let them know sooner than later.

And in reality, with only 8 days to go, you may not make the EA deadline anyway. EVERYTHING (except DODMERB) must be received by admissions by Nov 1 - that includes your teacher recommendations and your PFE.

Thank you for your response.

On the contrary, I believe that 8 days is enough for me to finish my application. I just need to submit my information for PFE (which I'm taking soon) and teacher recommendations (they already have done it for USMA and USAFA so they have a format for me already set out). I have everything else done and/or ready to be submitted.

I believe that early action is better for me since I am already anxious to see if I will be part of Class of 2016. It is definitely a lot better for me to hear from them as soon as possible.

Ultimately the decision is yours. Do whatever you feel will give you the best chance at getting accepted. If you think that you need to wait and tweak your application then it's better to wait. It's definitely a hard call to make, but just weigh out the pros and cons and do whatever you believe is right because you know your file best.
