Early Decision Deadline Question

^ Norwich is awesome with it.
If you have a ROTC scholarship you also will receive the ID white scholarship that covers room and board.
The only major thing you are on the hook for is $4,000 the first year for uniforms, but it will be reimburst through college.

Any advice on life at Norwich?

How many incoming rooks arrive with AROTC scholarships?

Advice on Being a rook/ cadet/ ROTC/ sports?

Also scholarships?
I keep reading they are generous with scholarships but even with the 20k merit
Scholarship that still leaves about 40k+ per year before yearly increases if one does not receive ROTC scholarship- any experience or advice is greatly appreciated.

Also UNG compared to Norwich- definitely a bargain as for price goes at UNG .

what about the education/ commissioning/ ROTC brigade compared to each other.

Thank you so much- all opinions/ advice appreciated.

Rumors are there are 68 three and four year winners arriving in the rook class. I, personally, take this with a grain of salt. I do not know typical numbers for a SMC. I can't speak much more on this.
I will be able to let you know about rook life in the late fall, maybe?

Having visited all the SMCs with my son I can tell you;
If you have the grades and test scores you can get a scholarship a Norwich of up to $20k per year.
That makes it closer to the UNG price. I am not sure the $40k after scholarship number above is correct. I think it would be more like $30k, still more than UNG. UNG when you add it all up including room and board, with the in state waiver, comes to about $20k per year.
Education wise it may depend on what you are looking for. My son is interested in an engineering degree. Norwich offers several. UNG has a five year program in conjunction with Georgia Tech. With UNG you would end up with two degrees, a science (physics, chemistry, etc) and an engineering degree from Georgia Tech. Not really sure how that dovetails with ROTC. UNG has an excellent Teacher education program.
Norwich's AROTC commissioning mission is around 90 per year, similar to UNG. UNG is AROTC only although I understand there is a group of "non-commissioning" cadets doing Marine PLC.
Another consideration would be weather. In winter there is a 40-50 degree temperature difference. UNG is in a slightly larger town but they are similar (as similar as rural Georgia and Northern Vermont can be).

DS is at Norwich on AROTC 4 yr scholarship. He did a fall sport his Rook year. Had to miss a freshman FTX which was on the weekend of a game. This was not a mandatory FTX and did not have to be made-up. He missed a few other Corps of Cadets activities including reviews, inspections, some trainings, due to practices and games. Overall, he was able to handle the academics, the sport, the Corps and AROTC.

Thank you both. Good info on ung stats and great to hear
About juggling rook year at Norwich. Any info or experience on joining the national guard while at norwich if an AROTC scholarship is not awarded. Concerned about deployment during college or is it true you can not be deployed if in program. Trying to be proactive on all aspects and compare upsides to all. Again greatly appreciated.

That is true.
And there is a Vermont National Guard Armory on the Norwich Campus.
