So after completing my interview with Senator Mikulski's nomination board one of the liaison people I spoke to said I would find out whether I got the nomination or not on November 1st. After I told her that on Mikulski's website it says December she said they are doing it early this year. So if her nominations are going earlier than usual does that mean some appointments will be going out earlier for MD candidates?

Maybe, maybe not. None of us know. Applications aren't due until Jan. There are a million factors that could affect the timing of things, with the only one being your application that is in your control.

I also just interviewed with Senator Mikulski and was told that I would be notified early November as well. With the nominations coming out earlier, this really won't do much for faster appointments, except with LoAs (in my case I luckily received one).

Mikulski's office has this accelerated Nomination process in conjunction with Cardin's office to ensure that the majority of great potential candidates can have their shot at the Academies. To my understanding, if you were to get a nomination through Mikulski, your application with Cardin would be terminated.

Good luck!

I respectfully disagree that Mikulski's office action does not "ensure that the majority of great potential candidates can have their shot at the Academies." What they mean is "as MANY candidates regardless of their potential to have their shot at the Academies."

Sen. Mikulski is retiring this year. She may be getting her nominations in early to avoid having her successor complain about not getting the opportunity to do the nominations.

That has cause a mess in the past. The outgoing MOC submits their slate. Then in January the new MOC takes over and they want to submit their slate. It becomes problematic for the SA.

Actually, it really doesn't. USNA does not allow the incoming MOC to overwrite nominees of the outgoing MOC. If the outgoing MOC does not fill an entire slate (10 nominees per slate), they will allow the incoming MOC to add names until the slate(s) are completely filled. The issue a few years back had to do with other problems -- I believe redistricting -- is what caused the biggest headache (where some principal nominees did not receive appointments) -- since every (all 4,000+) MIDN had to be re-charged based on the NEW districts...what a mess that must be.

Congrats on the LOA I guess I'll see what happens Nov 1st and then go from there.

You either get a nomination or you don't. There are only 10 nominations for each vacancy. I don't see how getting them earlier changes anything. It certainly doesn't increase the number of candidates to have "their shot" for an appointment. The number of candidates from that office is a fixed number, whether they occur in November, December or January is not going to change that.

I checked my portal earlier and I was happy to see that I have received a nomination. It doesn't specify who the nomination is from since it only says "Congress/Senator 2," but I'm guessing that it's from Senator Mikulski since her office is the only one who has interviewed me so far. I was surprised to see it this early. I was told that nominations from her would come out early November.

Congrats, I see the same thing in my portal. I'm assuming it is Mikulski and I emailed my BGO and he confirmed it as well. We are One Step Closer but not there yet.

Went through this with Daughter during an election year. Incoming Congressman accepted all recommended nominations from former and called to confirm nomination. They don't have the time or personnel with the knowledge to handle the process or interviews. Got a call from a new staff member telling me that Daughter was in the Naval Academy based upon her forwarded nomination long before the whole process was done and a long way from an appointment even with a LOA. The learning curve can be long for new staff. Rely on your BGO.

For anyone still wondering, all of Mikulski's nominations are now sent out, according to her office.
