Hi all -- DS's application is finally complete and he has received DODMERB notification that he is medically "qualified". On his application, he checked the box requesting early consideration. I have no idea if he meets the requirements for early notification of admission (ie whether he is "highly qualified"), and I understand that DS still needs a nomination, but I am curious as to when KP starts giving appointments under its early notification policy:

    Early Notification of Admission
Highly qualified candidates may receive early notification of their appointment after complete evaluation of their qualifications. All other candidates will be notified of their status on or about April 10 of the year in which they seek admission.

    The waiting is difficult . . .

My DS received his letter October 23rd saying that the "Candidate Evaluation Board had recommended him for an appointment to the USMMA at Kings Point... contingent upon a nomination, candidate fitness assessment and continued excellent work in school." We were surprised (and thrilled) to hear that early. It was great because DS was able to tell the nomination committee that he had already been accepted at KP and that if he received their nomination he would be attending. I agree that the waiting is awful! Good luck to you and your DS!

    Similar Story Here

Our DS applied to all 5 service academies and was accepted by Kings Point way before the rest. I think the application process is much less tedious at KP. I am sure part of it is because of fewer applications, but I think part of it is the people they have working in the admissions office at KP. Our DS had his application complete in August (2 years ago) and got a call from the Director of Admissions about this time asking him to clarify something in his application essay. Within a week, DS had his LOA contingent on getting a nomination. It was such a relief! Hang in there. I know how difficult the waiting is. It helps prepare you and your child for the roller coaster of emotions that is the inevitable Kings Point experience.

We were told that around 3200 apply to the USMMA and around 300 get in.This past year, I believe they sent out 350 letters and most of them showed up for Indoc which was a surprise to the school. The largest class since 1984 and with single digits of candidates leaving before acceptance week. Way to go Class of 2014.

The waiting is, indeed, pure hell. Hang in there.

I remember checking the application status page 57 times a day. You can make yourself crazy with that - and the waiting is not just for the LOA.

You'll also be waiting to hear on the nominations which can come at all kinds of crazy times. DS got three nominations but the first one came before Christmas and the last one didn't come until long after he was accepted by KP.

    Good luck!

My DD received her letter for appointment contingent as stated already in early November, had her nomination interview the beginning of December, received her nomination December 21, was granted a medical waiver, and received her Appointment February 17. It was very nice because she had her appointment when she was getting her other acceptance letters to colleges and USGCA came in the beginning of April, she did not get her application to USCGA complete in the same time frame as USMMA since USMMA was her number one choice so she was placed on the waiting list for USCGA and told them she had decided on USMMA. If you have not already done so be sure to contact your representative to get the packet for the nomination process and get that sent in. Most interviews are done the end of November - early Decemebr. Best wishes for success!!

Checking 57 times a day, man are you neurotic! ( whew, note to self, keep the checking under 50 times a day as to not appear, you know, crazy!)
Between my cyber- checking and my son calling Betty at admissions what seems like daily I think we are becoming pests! I actually wondered as I was again checking the application status page to see if LOR 3 was in ( coming from 600 miles
away) if the admissions office could tell how many times you check your status ?! What a horrifying thought! Lol. We have been told that as soon as file is complete
it will be reviewed in the next round. DS had to wait until mid September to make official request to school he attended last spring for math LOR. It would have been much easier from a home teacher but my sons experience was that this particular teacher was like the best LOR he could wish for and a teacher he repects
so much ( and not because he had such a great grade in his class, he didn't) but how much he learned) It had to be asked for on a
particular date and the put through the schools review panel to approve the request. And now we wait,,, tic toc,,,,,, anyone else in the boat
want to slide over and give an oar?

Does anyone one know how the appointment process is affected if the early decision box is or is not checked? Is the appointment process rolling?

    Sorry ...

I know what rolling admissions are but the specific nuances that are being asked about here relative to how the change to rolling admissions which is recent (last two years) specifically affects the process is something I don't fully understand.

That said my advice to all who ask me is that since it has been implemented, candidates with complete files and excellent credentials seem to be able to start receiving notifications of LOAs or conditional LOAs much, much earlier than ever before, so I tell them get your application complete ASAP even if you don't yet have an appointment. That way the time you go through the anxiety of waiting can be significantly shortened.

Sorry I can't answer the specific question directly, if I understood the specific mechanics, criteria and time-lines I would indeed do so. Though I suspect the real answer is it depends on several variables with each years applicant pool.

My son sent his final docs into the academy on December 31. Two weeks later our congressman called my son to congratulate him on his admission. The call was a nice touch.

DS's status just changed on the USMMA website from "application on file" to "conditional" (yes, I have been checking every day LOL). Am I correct in assuming that this means a conditional LOA is forthcoming? This would be great since DS has nomination interview #2 this week. I'm not saying a word to DS. First, I'm not completely sure what this means. And second, he should get the pleasure of finding out for himself without his mom ruining the surprise

    Congratulations

Yes, it means a conditional appointment is coming your way. Be sure to pay attention to the condition(s). Make sure to remind your DS or DD to keep up the good work. No failed senior classes, no stupid alcohol violations, no sports injuries. And make sure your MOC knows of the conditional appointment.
