 Flew into DC yesterday (Thursday) en route to Annapolis to see DS for Easter and didn't plan to see him until Friday night. We got a special surprise when he called and said to come over and meet up with him as it was rolling cart night and he could be with us at Dry Dock. What a treat! Spent 2 hours visiting and being in his world. The Yard is gorgeous. Tulips in bloom and lots of sun. Apparently liberty has been extended until 10:00 on Sunday, so we will enjoy a few extra hours with him. The mids all looked so great stolling around the yard in various activites. It was also nice to see the different groups practicing. We were also blessed at seeing the bagpipes and dancers rehearsing just outside of the Dry Dock. DH got some great pictures of that!!! What a difference almost a year has made in his life! The last time we were on the Yard was PPW. DS was relaxed, confident, and bubbling with summer plans and news. He walked us all around the Yard pointing out his classrooms, etc. I marveled at his ease and happiness! I remember how locked on and nervous he was the entire weekend of PPW. I am so thankful for this experience and grateful that he is finding his stride. Happy Easter to all! PS- I am off to the Mid Store! I hear there is a sale! :yllol:

That is wonderful, lovethenavy! I've been feeling a little sad about having our first Easter without our son at home. We will really miss him, but it helps to know that the Yard looks beautiful and things are upbeat for our plebes! I did send our son an Easter care package complete with shiny green "Easter basket grass", plastic eggs, and chocolate bunnies, so hopefully he won't feel deprived!
I can tell our son is also feeling the relief and excitement of plebe year coming to a close. He texted us last night that he aced his Pro Board and signed up to run his first triathlon next month! All is good!

You just wanted an excuse to get out of Soth Dakota! :)

Subvet, who wouldn't want an excuse to get out of South Dakota and head for the Yard! It was snowing when we left! Serioulsy snowing :shake: Spent the evening last night with DS and 9 of his friends at the Dry Dock. They enjoyed pizza and we sat back and listened to the funniest stories of Plebe summer and their first year at the Academy. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Priceless! Feed them and they will come! Rainy and chilly here, but everyone seemed to be in great spirits and lots of mids were having food delivered to them and relaxing from their busy weeks. Plans were being made for time with their sponsors. There was lots of talk about attending the Rugby game today and it made me feel good to see that my son is doing ok. They all seemed to be in good places. Of course there was the usual grumbling, but that made it all the more real as I would be suspicious if it was all rosey. Happy Easter to all.

DS and one of his roomies here at our house for Easter. They don't have to be back until 2000 tomorrow night. They are having fun decorating Easter eggs and are headed out to go go-carting. They are excited that there are only 7 more days of classes left!
Happy Easter to all!

Lovethenavy: I'm insanely jealous! We had one of those Friday evening unexpected meals with plebe son and friends last year as well. He didn't think he could see us, so we had just sat down and ordered a really nice meal on the waterfront. He called to say he was headed to Dry Dock......We inhaled our meal...... I ate a lobster tail and chased it with a Pinot grigio in about 2 minutes. DH ran to rent car to get my ID while I headed for the gate. We arrived totally breathless and had one of those wonderful evenings.

Great memories !

Friday was rainy and cool, but today it warmed up and the sun has come out. Seems to be a lot of family in town. Chiiling at the moment but out for dinner tonight!

So glad you got to visit with your son, LovetheNavy! We, too, sent an Easter basket in the mail. Got a text on Sunday saying it made him feel like he was with the family. He also called and talked for a good while...a great Easter present!

When we dropped our son off at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday I saw numerous bags of snacks being carried back into Bancroft and a few Easter baskets. We went the snack route. Sunday was a beautiful day, but a HUGE thunderstorm blew in on Sunday evening. The lightning show was spectacular.

The thing that I thought was really nice was to see all of the mids enjoying their freedom in DTA on Sunday evening until 8:00. They were strolling about eating ice cream cones. They all seemed to be in great spirits. And when we were delivering our DS to the Yard that night, we also saw many walking around enjoying the beautiful evening! Hopefully other parents who were there also sent snacks to be enjoyed by all! We sent our mid back to the room with a bag of goodies for the roomies!
