I would just be interested in what other parents are hearing from their cadets as to how they are being affected by the government shutdown. I know USAFA has released information in a broad nature, but just curious as to how individual cadets are being impacted, if much at all.

For example, my daughter called yesterday and advised that her jump class that was due to start this weekend has been cancelled. She has not had any classes suspended, cancelled or combined with other class sections.

Well, we're starting to run out of toilet paper. That's never very much fun.

I read about the toilet paper shortage. AFA parent include toilet paper in your care packages.

I'd recommend that even when the government isn't shut down. The toilet paper at USAFA has never been of the finest quality.

I am sorry I had this bad vision for a second, ok more than a second, of a air drop of 10,000 rolls of toilet paper with little tiny parachutes attached to each roll. My DD who is a candidate for 2018 already took notice of this thread and added it to her care package list. She said she isnt worried about being yelled at and BCT, she is worried about TP.

I'm laughing as I read this because my DD texted me that they've assigned bathroom cleaning duty in the squadron and she's making it her personal mission to find the storage place for TP and start hoarding!

I know there was some concern about classes and availability of EI. My DD told me that various professors who have not been furloughed are taking on extra EI to cover for others and that professors who have been furloughed have been personally calling students. In one instance a professor still showed up in class even though she wasn't supposed to. I am very grateful that USAFA has caring and committed staff who aren't going to let anything get in the way of their mission. And the cadets seem to be taking it all in a stride; my DD's athletic team is having "captain's practice" and have been working hard even without the full coaching staff.

Our kids are being trained to "keep on keeping on" and they're doing a great job at it.

In the Marine Corps we used leaves. You have to be real careful, poison ivy, is not fun.

    How to use toilet paper:

    1. Tear
    2. Wipe

One too many steps for the Marine Corps!

My son is lucky and has only 1 professor missing. It is a higher level math class and the cadets are going to class and teaching each other struggling through the problems.

Not sure care packages would get through. I suspect if the janitors and laundry are closed, they do not have people in the mailroom!

The bigger issue is the computer with midterm grades is down. This means that cadets will need to be VERY careful and checking their mid-term grades themselves based on previous work. Prog is when many freshmen and others get the jolt that they need to get on track to finish the second half of the semester strong or risk ARC!

Here's to hoping this doesn't last long!

Post office is still open. To be on the safe side send care packages by fed ex or ups.
