I heard on R-Day about 1500 new cadets enter Beast and about 1350 complete it. Is that true?

How about elimination rater over the next four years?

When I went on my visit they said that about 1200 enter and about 900-1000 make it through.

The seemingly overblown numbers from the OP are probably coming from the fact that the class of 2014 is already over sized. There have been 1450 people who accepted their acceptances. They are not making any appointments off of the National Waiting List this year and will probably have to look at admitting a smaller-than-usual class for the Class to 2015 in order to balance out the large size of this class.

Do you know what the main reason(s) for the decrease are?

Probably because people quit who can't handle the acadmey, realized it wasn't for them, separations, etc.

Any guesses as to how much smaller 2015's class will be?

    Szpieg,

As one of those who was put on the National (Indefinite) Waiting List this year I certainly agree with you. You have no idea how frustrating it is to live and go to High School @ West Point.

14 people from my high school applied and were either accepted for direct admission or to the prep school. Little old me, in a catch-22 position, will have to reapply next year, probably through Civil Prep since that's my best chance to get into the Class of 2015.

The problems admissions is facing comes from the fact that they sent out too many acceptances and got too many yes's. As I said above the class right now sits at 1450. It'll be interesting too see how they balance it out in the coming years as well as how many of those who accepted their appointments end up leaving.

My advice: DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO BOOST YOUR APPLICATION

Aw man I would feel totally bummed out if I was the only one who didnt get an offer. Its good that you are reapplying...and again guys, sorry for the use of language, but I had no other words to use that fit my feelings towards it. I was hot headed at the time in school when I read it, and I appoligize

It is what it is friend, I've come to terms with it. I'll try again, I will persevere, what else can I do?

    [edit]

And as for the language, no worries, if I said half the things I've thought about my situation people would probably put me in a mental institution.

For those on the NWL...thats a bummer. I hope you guys get in next year :]

Is it really true that the current class stands near 1500? And that competition next year will be tougher? How many less would they accept next year to make up for the larger-than-expected class size this year?

    Good luck next year guys!

    Chockstock-

I addressed your questions in an earlier post in this thread. Don't take everything I've said as gospel. However it;s not really rumor either. These are things I have heard from people directly involved in the admissions process on the admin side as well as those who have access to such information.

    Have you been offered admission?

Do your classmates read these forums? You've given an awful lot of identifying information.
I hope the prep route works for you...it must be so frustrating to live there and not gain admission. I have a neighbor who was in the same boat 20 years ago...he ended up going to North Georgia and commissioned through there...all while his dad was a WP professor.

[editor: no information has been removed from this post: some prior posts have been edited since this post to remove identifying info, this post was in reference to those]

I get a little hot headed about it sometimes, I apologize. You don't fully think things through when you're typing with emotion.

Thank you ffor wishing me luck on the Civil Prep route, it'll do me some good anyways. Give me a good foundation.

Civil Prep is when a candidate is offered a partial scholarship by the West Point Assoc. of Graduates (AOG) to attend a military junior college for one year. They have to reapply but as long as they do well during their prep year (good grades, pass the physical fitness test, get a nomination, stay out of trouble) they will be offered an appointment to the next class. These candidates are usually on the waiting list and don't qualify for USMAPS.

My son did civil prep at New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) during the 2006-07 school year.

I was just surprised because Mr. Belmont in the above thread said something that contradicts what you said about 1450 having been appointed. According to him, only about 1000 have been offered. So maybe you still have a chance

Yes, I got an offer back in February :\
