Hello, I was just wondering if anyone knows the statistics of last years class on how many individuals who were enlisted in the Navy or Marine Corps applied to the academy and how many of those individuals received appointments. I am a Marine who previously attended USMMA; however, left to enlist and am now applying to the Naval Academy. I looked on the Naval Academy's admissions and read that 67 were admitted, I am just curious about how many actually applied. Thank you for your time and replies!

We would have liked to know the answer to that question last year too, but didn't ask. The admissions office is probably the only one with those statistics. You could probably email the fleet coordinator your question.

The class of 2018 has 10 Navy and 1 USMC with direct from the fleet nominations. My DS is USMC, received a direct admission LOA, and finally an offer for NAPS along with his granted color blind waiver. He's currently one of 6 Marines at NAPS. If you check the MARADMINS for the past few years you will see there is usually 1-2 directs and approximately 10 admits to NAPS. I wonder if this year's decreased USMC admission numbers reflect the overall USNA class size reduction or the quality of the applicants for the class of 2014.

Having just returned from parents weekend at NAPS I can tell you I was pretty impressed with the Marine applicants. It helps if you have Certificate of Commendation, Honor Grad, or Physical Fitness Awards in your package.

Thank you for your response that helped a lot! I am confident in my academic qualifications, and I was an Honor Graduate at boot along with receiving a Meritorious Promotion as well as Mast from MCT. I have a 290 Pft and a 295 Cft, I am keeping my fingers crossed and sure hope everything goes as planned and hoped for. Thank you once again!

Those will definitely help get you noticed. It will also help if you have done something significant since MOS school so keep striving for success in your unit. Good to hear that your academics won't be an issue. My DS also had a qualifying high school background which is also a big part of the picture. The remaining hard part for many active USMC is getting their military recommendations. I'm not sure how long you have been out of MCT & MOS, but typically you will need to establish yourself in your unit before your USMC superiors are willing to write a recommendation and submit to the commanding officer for his recommendation. This is what usually delays most active duty applicants. The good news is you have until Jan 31 to submit those so you still have some time to make an impression. Be sure to send any updates (like additional certificates) that you might earn until Jan 31. Keep me posted on your status as we hope to see you on board on Iday! Feel free to IM if you have additional questions.
