Error creating application profile

DS was going to start working on his USNA application yesterday. He was just on the first step of entering basic profile information (i.e. name, address, ssn, etc) and when he submitted the page got an error "A prospective midshipman record already exists." I assume they are using SSN for the identifier in this case. The "continue working on your application" option just asks for a username and password and doesn't appear to provide a link for people who do not know their ID. Any thoughts on how a record would already exist, and how we can access the existing record?

Thanks...

It sounds like your DS was trying to submit a second preliminary application. If your DS was designated an official candidate (an email and/or letter should have been received stating such), then the username and password is included in this letter/email. Once entered, you are taken to a separate page where you enter in a candidate number and other personal information to access your application. Did your DS submit the preliminary application recently or has it been a while and do you know if he was designated an official candidate?
