In case it gets thrown into your spam file, CC just announced that due to weather and other delays, the deadline to submit the Notice of Intent to Accept AROTC Scholarship has been extended. The new deadline is March 5th.

This would have been great to know yesterday, when we overnight mailed it for twenty bucks.

I'm hoping that someone who received an offer from the first round will have an answer: Did you receive confirmation (via email, portal update, etc.) that your letter had been received? Thanks!

In addition to mailing it, we faxed it and emailed a scanned copy.

When emailing, we sent a copy to both the email address listed and son's scholarship officer. A confirmation was sent to us by the scholarship officer.

Thanks! I did send a copy to the financial aid officer at the college DS chose as well as his admissions counselor. I'm so sorry, but what is a scholarship officer? I don't think I've seen that mentioned before!

We faxed, emailed, snail-mailed, and uploaded a copy of my DS's acceptance letter (2nd Board) to AROTC on 2/9 & 2/10/2014. It showed on the portal (under "File Upload" tab) as "Approved" either same day or next, and the two unaccepted schools dropped off the "Selection Status" ("Winner" page) tab page and the school chosen now reflects as "Offer Accepted." Also, DS's PMS emailed him on 2/11/2014 to congratulate him and to say that he had received notification from Cadet Command of DS accepting the scholarship.

Thanks Undead! I just uploaded to DS's portal, I was not aware that that was an option!

Why would anyone snail mail anything in this day and age???
Just asking.

Understood. Good question. I did it because it was suggested by some other folks on this board, and because I didn't want to not have sent an original signature in case that mattered to someone at Cadet Command. I would have preferred to only upload a scanned copy of the signed letter to the portal. Way quicker and way more efficient. Thanks for all of your help and good advice, Clarkson. Posters need to be sure to listen to what you have to say (regarding AROTC)...words of wisdom, people. #imjustsayin:thumb::thumb:

Well Clarkson....let's see. There are some parts of my county(not mine thank goodness) where, believe it or not, there is no high speed cable internet, and the dial-up service stinks. That is one reason. Another is that sometimes ones computer acts so outrageously stupid that you don't dare risk sending anything on it (that would be mine). However, we did manage to send DS's scholarship acceptance by computer, but had a back-up snail-mail copy all ready to go. It showed up on his portal very quickly, so we never sent the snail-mail.
Oh, and the 3rd reason is - I llike the US Postal service and want them to stay in business. I often have to send packages and that is the best local option. Oh, and I like my mailman!

Can you think of a better way to send something when you really want it to take several days, perhaps get lost / stolen, and want no confirmation that your message reached the destination? Seriously, that's a no-bainer!

We also sent it via USPS. Unlike emails or faxes, I was able to get a signature upon delivery. If someone tries to say that son's package was not received, I can give a date, time, and name of the person who signed for it.

Not to be argumentative, trying to be instructive...you can send an email with a read receipt. If you scan and upload you don't even have to worry about whether the email was received. You can see that the document has been uploaded. Waiting two weeks to receive the return receipt in the mail (hopefully) seems like a bigger risk than even faxing something to Cadet Command (which I don't recommend anyone ever does). I'm a big fan of the USPS, and love my mailman too. In fact one of the mailmen in our town was an ROTC instructor here 6 Months ago.

Proof of delivery can be requested online. Two weeks was so ten years ago.

I scanned AND faxed my acceptance form in to Cadet Command. Within the day, they had updated my portal to say "You have accepted an ROTC scholarship at: Virginia Military Institute".

My son just uploaded it to his portal. A day or so later it showed as accepted. He also faxed a copy the same day he uploaded it.
