Facebook for parents?

Skismuggs is my hero. Great posts. Please run for US President in 2016.:thumb:

Momba Bomba, I feel your pain, we live in Rhode Island, so I can appreciate the distance that you are talking about. I have a DS that is a C3C and if you have any questions that you would like to ask me, you can always email me at sportsmomt10@gmail.com. If I can help you, I would be more than happy to share any experiences I have with you.

Thank you so much for the help. I will be in touch! I just need time to get my thoughts organized and prioritized.

Oh and thank you also to all those who others offered information and suggestions. I can't spell all the user ids properly! I am pretty sure they would be seriously mangled. Thanks again!

9)when you send a package, it doesnt go to their mailbox - they have to pick it up at PAK MAIL at Vandy's and will have to lug that package around to their dorms so dont send them a huge, heavy box filled with cans LOL esp if they live at Sijan.

I wanted to clarify something for all the new parents. If you send a package via USPS, it DOES go to their PO Box which is a US post office. If you send a package via FedEx or UPS, it goes to the Pack-Mail location which is next to the C Store inside Vandy. They are an independent shipping service. If you send a package to Pack-Mail, the cadet has to pay a fee of $3 to pick up the package. There is a different address for Pack-Mail. I tried to post the link, but the forum won't let me because I just registered. Sorry! If you Google, "USAFA Support Pack-Mail," it will come right up, though.

The post office is also located in Vandy and they will not accept FedEx or UPS packages. If the package is small, it will be placed either in their personal PO Box or in another larger box and the key to retrieve it will be placed in their personal PO Box. If it's oversized, they will get a slip in their PO Box and they will have to go to the window during normal business hours to pick it up. Sometimes if they have lots of packages coming in (especially around A Day, Recognition, etc) the post office gets backed up and packages can sit there for a while before the cadet is notified they are there. I have personally found FedEx to be much more reliable than USPS, but I have also sent a number of packages using the USPS flat rate boxes. You can stuff as much stuff as you want inside and it's very economical! Just make sure during holidays and busy times of the year that you allow more than the 2 days they say it will take.

my bad, should have said any other package that is not USPS. thanks for pointing that out.

The other thing that I recommend is keeping the receipts with the USPS tracking number until the package is received by your cadet, not just until you have confirmed that it is at USAFA. The days after BCT are really heavy box delivery days, and last year 2 boxes I sent up for my daughter during that time took 4 weeks to be received by her, and she checked every day. I made the mistake of throwing out the receipts as soon as the tracking indicated that they were at USAFA. When my kid inquired, they told her they wouldn't look for it unless she had those tracking numbers.

And every year during BCT and post-BCT there are numerous complaints about mail delivery by irate parents trying to send their "love" to their cadets...Just acknowledge that it's gonna happen and don't grind your teeth about it.

My DS is a recent appointee. Is there a Facebook for c/o 2018 parents? I have MANY silly questions about the Colorado trips, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc... I also am in the beginning stages of freaking out and I am hoping to find a more level-headed parent mentor. : )

This group on facebook can help with your questions
My Life is Cadet Parent: USAFA Parents United

I have had a Join-request in for many days for this FB Grouip but no action on that request. Is there another way to contact them to join the Group?

Same here and I sent a message to the page admin with no response.

However I highly recommend the other parents page (link posted earlier in this thread). I was warmly welcomed and there is lots of great info and help from the parents there.
