Welcome to all the parents of USNA Class of 2017! My advice to you as the mom of a Firstie is to join some of the wonderful Facebook groups available to you as Mid parents. In my experience, this is the easiest way to keep informed, ask questions, see the latest pictures, and connect with other parents. Not on Facebook? Well, now is the time to sign up! You won't regret it - even if you never make a single post, you'll have access to a treasure trove of information. Here are some of the best of many USNA related Facebook pages (the first 3 are "closed" groups, you'll need to ask to "join group" by clicking the button at the top of the page):

https://www.facebook.com/groups/USNAPARENTS/ USNA Parent Community - This is a moderated group for the parents of current midshipmen with accurate information coming directly from USNA.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/USNACLASSOF2017PARENTS/ USNA Class of 2017 Mom and Dad - a moderated group just for incoming plebe parents!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/USNAMIDPARENTS/ USNA MID MOMS!!! (and DADS!) - the Wild Wild West of parent FB groups, unmoderated, lots of diverse opinions, lots of laughs, but take it with a grain (or two!) of salt.

https://www.facebook.com/USNavalAcademy?fref=ts United States Naval Academy - USNA's official page.

https://www.facebook.com/LuckyBagUSNA?fref=ts USNA Lucky Bag - USNA yearbook, great pictures!

https://www.facebook.com/MyLifeIsMid?fref=ts My Life is Mid - humorous and irreverent look at life as a Mid (caution: ok to read, but NOT the place for parents to post comments! )

Be very careful what you do! Just a word to the wise joining a group. Parent's Clubs might be better. Just my opinion.

Wow! New membership on the USNA Parents Facebook pages has been exploding in the last week! If you have requested to join one of the "closed" groups, be sure to check your "other" folder under your Facebook Messages tab. The site administrators will send you a message requesting further information, which you'll need to respond to before you'll be allowed to join the group.
The pictures, videos, and stories from I Day have been great! :thumb:

I agree with AF6872. There are tons of 'groups' on the net you can join, some provide more useful information then others, some will simply fill up your email inbox with redundant, seldom used information. Some of the 'moderated' sites tend to restrict open dialog which is what I think most people are looking for.

Some of the closed 'list serve' groups I have belonged to past gave the impression of talking about all sorts of secret/inside information that mids wouldn't have access to. In reality, most of the same topics that were supposedly such a big secret were openly discussed on this forum.

It basically depends on how many of these sites you want to frequent, since many cover similar information.
