Is there a Facebook page for the USMA class of 2018?

    How about for parents?

    Thanks

Yeah! There is, it's pretty new. West Point Class of 2018 Parents. It's a closed group, so you have to request to be added. There is also a West Point Moms closed group. TONS of info!

    Facebook....

There is a FB page for Class of 2018 Parents, another one for Dads, and yet another one for Moms. It is a closed group that is monitored by the Public Admin office at WP. You make your request and they find your name on the list they have and let you have access. NC can see the stuff on there through their parents FB but don't have access or post on there. Since it is a closed group and you have access, it is asked that you don't share any info from that FB site.

Kudos to Buff81 maintaining respect from that site and montitoring the info that my find its way here.

Class of 2017 was the first experiment and it seems to be a success

    Sorry - I didn't quote that correctly.

    NC=New Cadet??

    FB....

They can look over their parents shoulder, literally, but thats it. From the "New Cadets" account they can't see or post. I can imagine parents posting some very embarrasing stuff about them on FB and would want it taken down.

I should've said "CC" Cadet Candidate

Sorry, but it would be VERY inappropriate for a parent to allow their cadet candidate access visually or otherwise to a "closed group" West Point parent Facebook page. Parents are not allowed to join the 2018 Class Parents page until their candidate has accepted their appointment.

Geez, I was just hoping for a simple link, but now I feel like I'm becoming a "Skull" or member of some other secret society. This is certainly intriguing and somewhat intimidating.

    Just to be clear....

Parents and/or cadets cannot join after an appointment is offered, but only after acceptance? If that's the case, too bad.

DS still has overnight visits to both academies and base visits to both CG and Army installations coming up as he sorts out which service is the best fit for him.

I searched on FB and think I found the right sites if and when we are able to join. Thanks!

    FB Parent Account....

I agree with my3son2017. When you do accept and join the parent FB its very cool to meet other families and parents that your CC knows. You will get a chance to develop relationships with them over the next years. And mentor each other.

Lots of information is posted. For some parents this will be their first time joining FB. You may be reluctant at first to join, but, it really is a great source of information and support. However, as a reminder to all parents requesting access and once you are approved to get access, please do not at any time give your password out. The integrity of the sites must be kept confidential.

The parents site is extremely helpful. I have made some good friends just from talking through issues we were facing as parents.

Sorry for the frustration in gaining entry, but it works. It's not about being exclusive. It's about providing the right forums and good info for the folks involved.:thumb:

This is an official page: https://www.facebook.com/WestPointParents
    it is also public.

This is an official page, but you can only join after your CC accepts appointment --for moms and dads: https://www.facebook.com/groups/758066524220200/ This is run by the USMA parent liaison

This is an UNofficial page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/33582021671/ You can request to join after your CC accepts appointment.

The site mentioned above my post in this thread is also unofficial. It's what people used before facebook.

SA forums is a great site! Thanks admins!

This is a FB group for those who have received an appointment for c/o 2018, you don't necessarily need to have accepted your offer to join. It was created by an appointed candidate. https://www.facebook.com/groups/275110242638245/

    Social Media....

You want to join the FB page that you need permission to join. Its monitored by WP public affairs page and you will get accurate info direct from WP without outside noise.

    Trust me on this

I would suggest avoiding your class facebook page until after A-Day. There really isn't any useful information on there and you can really only make a bad name for yourself by coming off as a know-it-all.

Parents pages may be a different story, but I don't know why they are so uptight about the secrecy part? If you have a question to ask but don't want your kid to see it, you should probably rethink asking it (unless its a surprise gift, etc.)

    FB Group Problems?

Is anyone having trouble accessing the West Point Class of 2018 Parents page?
The administrator has added me to the group, I can see that I am a member, yet I still cannot see the page. All I see is the list of members. We have tried deleting and adding me again to the group, and no change. Is there a setting I need to change? I have not had this problem joining other groups.

If all you see is Members, you may be on the Members link at the top of the page. To the left of it is "West Point Class of 2018 Parents". Try clicking on that. To the right of Members, is Events / Photos / Files. You should be able to move around among those 5 pages.
