reading a facebook site that claims to be a place for USNA 2014 appointees/candidates to meet up and ask questions. This email was sent from the administrator:

I know some of you have not gotten in yet or are on the waiting list, but did you know....
Some people show up on "I" day and get to go into the Naval Academy in replace of the people who do not show up!!!

    Comments, please.

We heard this from a friend, but when we spoke to our son's BGO he said that you just can't show up. The Academy needs to check out everything, records, etc. So . . . don't know if that is true or not.

Maybe the top people on the waitlist get notified to "stand by"?

I know last year there was a small group who were photographed a few days after I-Day with their big white bags. Rumour was that they were from the wait list.

    Do NOT believe it!
Do NOT show up at the Academy on IDay without an Appointment. If they want you after IDay, they will contact you directly. Period. (Per our BGO bulletins.)

It just is very disturbing that someone would email these kids, telling them this.

    FB:
    Naval Academy Class of 2014

the administrator did not post this, but emailed it to all members.

I've warned my son to observe, but don't give out too much information on this or any other site. You just never know who is behind these.

    Definitely not true.

If you show up to any of the academies om R-Day/I-Day without an appointment, you will be turned away forthwith.

Why would someone do this? What do they have to gain by giving such false information?

This is true, my dad has a friend who's son wanted to go to the academy, but didn't get an appointment. Come I-Day he showed up, and there was several people who accepted the appointment but didn't show up- they took him. Not the typical way of getting in, but he's in nonetheless

This used to be the case. However, as of a few years ago they did away with the show up on I-day as a waitlister and walk on in. I have a friend who tried this last year and was informed they no longer did this.

Be very careful with those sites sometimes detailers can and will gain access to them and find out information about their soon to be plebes. I had one classmate in my company who our detailers knew some crazy things about ...

Speaking of facebook: All you appointees, if you haven't done so earlier in the application process, clean up your facebook pages. Look at the photos. Make sure there is nothing on your pages that you wouldn't want on the front page of the newspaper.
